Following on to the census results listers kindly sent yesterday, I find that Deborah Denton was in fact Deborah KITCHENER before she married Thomas in 1837. The Bucks FHS marriage data base shows her father as William KITCHENER but does not give her mother and there is no baptism on the Bucks FHS baptism data base. (Its very unlikely that the Fanny Kitchener on the census was her mother) Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might find out her mother's name? I know many of the Kitcheners were non-conformist.... TIA Jane Savile (nee Kitchener), Suffolk, UK
Dear Eve, They are my son in laws family as this tree is for my granddaughter. His TURNER is proving as awkward as my own in Lancashire but mine is James. At least with Absolam I stand a better chance I hope. Regards Joan

Dear Eve, As George's grandson became a carpenter it is possible one of his children went into that trade as well and I now know there was another George. As the HUNT family they married into came from Fulbrook to live in Bucks I will give the Berks list a try. Thanks this is a great list and very helpful. Regards Joan in Devon

Sometimes they used the names over again. George HODKINSON is how it was spelt on the 1881 was born about 1814 at Amersham. He was a farmer employing 1 man in 1881. His wife Elizabeth was born Chesham and they lived in Chesham at Bellingdon Rd. There is a marriage for a George in 1859 so he may have married twice but nothing to prove that. I can't find a marriage otherwise. He could have been married and had a son of 16 but it is doubtful. Going by the 1881 he should be 36 in 1851 but you never can tell. Thanks for your help. Hi Joan Because I had never heard of a Speen in Bucks, I checked the GENUKI list of places and there it says Speen is in Berkshire, registration district Newbury, so it could be that the Berks list will help more with the bap you're after. Thank you to everyone who replied - I've just got in from work and seen the messages. William was buried at Olney on 11 April 1851 which was why I wanted to know the census date. I'm still trying to establish proof positive that this was my gt/gt/gt/gt/grandfather William.... Certainly Fanny was not my gt/gt/gt/gt/grandmother but we already knew 'our' William was married at least twice. And incidentally, if you are one by blood, watch out for adverse effects from injections. In the 1890s, two Kitchener brothers were summoned repeatedly for not having their babies innocupated for ssmallpox, according to the law. They stated reasonably that they had had one doen each and the first became very ill, the second had her life despaired of, so they were not risking the rest. The magistrate was sympathetic, and saw their point, but gined them just the same. -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society
