    3. I notice in the Rollcall several people interested in SMITH families. Can anyone assist in locating a Sydney Smith born abt 1821? Father was William SMITH, mother possibly Elizabeth BENNETT/BARNET/... Oral history has Sydney with a brother (unnamed) and sisters Elizabeth, Sarah and Sussanah or could be Sarah-Sussanah. An uncle is said to have worked on the canals. Another possibilty is that the family may have gone to London as the IGI has a Christening there. Sydney SMITH has a good 'copperplate hand' (I do have a copy of his signature) and wondered if he appeared in any school records. He travelled to Tasmania Australia with 'friends' on a Henty ship and worked as a Whaler The estimated time of the voyage is about 1837. He did not return to England, apparently much to the annoyance of his father who expected him to work in his business (Brass, Glass or Stationery) I have put off looking for this SMITH for such a very long time. I wonder why!!! Not much to go on. In Victoria, Sydney SMITH donated money for the setting up of a Church of England school for his children. Thanks, Lorna E. Melbourne Australia
