    1. Non-Gen: British Restaurant
    2. Thanks to everyone who replied to my query on the British Restaurant at Darlaston, particularly Jackie who described the route I would have taken by St. Lawrence's Churchyard. As it happened there was a photograph of this church in the current edition of The Bugle and the wall surrounding the churchyard was just as I remembered. With my rellies being adamant that I was wrong I was beginning to think I had dreamed the whole thing up! I must have been about 4 years old at the time of this visit to Darlaston. This stirred another memory from about the same time. My grandmother took me on a tram from West Bromwich to Hill Top. I had problems getting on as the step was too high for my little legs. As the trams were dying out I think this was the only one I was ever on in England. Many years later on taking a tram journey abroad the memory of the uncomfortable wooden seats, the noises peculiar to trams (including rattling windows) and the jerky motions all came flooding back.
