Hi All Just set up my new computer, & decided to use Outlook instead of Outlook Express. When I get mail from the mailing list, all the attachments are at the bottom of the page, & I've spent ages in the help files but can't see a way of having them at the top like in Outlook Express. Is there a way to do it, or am I going to have to learn to live with it (or revert to Outlook Express....)? I dread to think what will happen when I try to network the thing....I've already been warned off wireless, with much sucking of teeth & comments like "You'll never be able to do it!", so it looks like we'll be drilling holes & trailing wires round the house. Thanks in advance. Steph -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.300 / Virus Database: 268.3.1 - Release Date: 24/03/2006

We installed it and gave it up after a year as too unreliable. But you don't need trailing wires. You can get systems that plug into ordinary electrical sockets and make use of the normal ring main. We've been delighted with ours. Best wishes Paul Prescott
Hi Steph I'm not quite sure what you mean, Outlook Express allows you to have the list of messages at the top and message previews (if enabled) below the message list or to the side. A quick check with Outlook (2003) shows virtually the same layout. Right clicking on the message header gives you the option to view attachments, selecting the mesage then clicking on File gives you a range of options including saving the attachments. This is exactly the same as Outlook Express. Steph If you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197746/en-us it discusses the problem and how to avoid it. I used Outlook 2000 for some time and preferred it to OE but have more recently moved on to Outlook 2003 which if you have the opportunity to use I would recommend. It has a better display than 200, showing the whole message in a message pane plus has a very effective built in spam checker. Re wireless I have used this for the last two years and found very little problems with it. XP SP2 significantly improved the interface for controlling it. I currently use both wireless and wires. Wires are faster if you want to move data between PCs on the network and don't have the potential security issues that wireless can but if you have a laptop I would definitely recommend trying wireless. If you do decide to go that way let me know if you would like me to send you links to sites I've found useful Regards Peter Wharton -----Original Message----- From: Steph Robinson [mailto:stephrobinson@blueyonder.co.uk] Sent: 25 March 2006 19:50 To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [B.C.] Non Gen - Microsoft Outlook Hi All Just set up my new computer, & decided to use Outlook instead of Outlook Express. Steph What version of Outlook are you using ? I have used Outlook successfully since the version that was part of Office 2000 - I am now on Outlook that was included with 2003 . Which is a little different from the earlier versions. You can configure each folder to behave exactly as you want 'using create rule ' which will filter your mail to different folders if you want - The order you want the mail can be configured by date - subject - sender also other formats that are listed. Has the advantage of a folder auto created named " received Mail " where any new downloads are listed. Hope this helps , but if you have more queries please do not hesitate to write to me off -list. NB For all !! Never use preview in a mail program - as that can in some instances trigger virus attachments. From the main Outlook screen (not the one you see when you are reading/writing an email), take a gander at the options on the View Menu. Current View, Preview, Auto-Preview are relevant options to use the Outlook Help tool for lessons. I avoid taking auto-preview options because that used to be a common way start an email worm.
