    3. Hi Graham Not so strange, just the spellings! A huxter is a "huckster" - normally a peddler or hawker, or one who uses agressive or showy methods to sell or engages in haggling. A shraw bonnet maker is a "straw bonnet maker" - ie one who makes bonnets (hats) out of plaited straw.     3. Polly Thanks very much for this. I get the thing about straw bonnets but would a huckster have had a shop? I wouldn't want to buy anything from them! Perhaps it was the store where the gang of hucksters picked up their supplies?
