Hi Jilly, Knew there was something on these lines, but had to look it up: An Act of 1710 allowed the Lord of the Manor to appoint a Gamekeeper (with authority to kill game on the manor) whose name had to be registered with the Clerk of the Peace. One of mine worked for Lord Spencer in Northants and he had a written appointment. On the back it was endorsed by the local Clerk of the Peace. I found this document in the Northants Record Office, so it might be worth checking the local County R.O, if that's any help. Rita
