If someone is listed in the census as living on their own means would this be what i understand as someone who is living on "means" as in means tested[hope thats not a daft question] in the same census i have someone whos a Door Knob Presser Brass.i was wondering if that was anything to do with the Chubb works as i also have a safemaker and locksmith in the same family. can anyone tell me what Dale Street and Baker Street might have looked like in the late 1880`early 1900`s[are there any pictures /photos i could veiw?] hope i haven`t asked to many questions. steve

In fact it means almost exactly the opposite of that. It's someone who lives off a private income from investments. Best wishes Paul Prescott
