Sometimes, as a special treat, we also saw the pantos at Dudley Hippodrome and a theatre in Brum, but can't recall exactly which one! Yes, I certainly remember queuing to see Santa at Lewis's, Greys, Beehive, etc. And the grottos were breathtaking. But I could never understand why there were so many different Santas and puzzled over which one of them was the REAL Santa. And do you remember the spectacular pantomimes? I can remember going to the Alex and also places like Bearwood and Dudley, I think. It seemed to take ages on the bus to get there. Noele Gordon (later of Crossroads and Lunchbox fame) was a popular principal boy at the time, I seem to remember.
