    3. Goodmorning, In response to your interest in Thompsons in Brierly Hill, I have the following: Benjamin Thompson who started as an engineer at Round Oak and later owned a hatshop in Brierly Hill High Street. He was also a Butty man for some time. He lived finally in John Street Brockmoor BH. He married Myrah Gill. His Children were Alice, vanished to Australia, Alfred Ernest , Phoebe and "Ginney" . Phoebe married Herbert Clare and ran the Brierly Hill Printing Company, also in High Street BH. Benjamin opened a second shop in Dudley. Ginney married a William (?) Knowles and had one son, also Will. They too lived in John Street. Herbert and Phoebe's son Douglas was killed in the tank battle at El Alamein. Alfred Ernest married Florence Augusta Hickman, daughter of Joseph Hickman and xxx(?) Norwood. (I have the Hickmans back to 1790). They had three children Ernest Hickman Thompson, Marjorie Thompson and Stanley Norwood Thompson ( my father). I have quite a bit of Thompson data back to a speculative 1790-ish John Thompson. If anyone has any relevant links I can pass on the material I have in a little more detail. My thought is possibly Hill Street erroneously entered up as Mill st My surname interests are Garvey, Thompson, Moren, Pearsal and Brettell >Peter Willets wrote > >I have ancestors whose Brierley Hill address on the '41 and '51 >census is 'Back of Mill Lane'. > >On later censuses they were at Cottage Street, Chapel Street and >Brick Kiln Street, all of which border Mill _Street. > >_I have not done detailed research on this, but it may be a fair bet >that Mill Lane was renamed as Mill Street. > >I would be interested to know who were your folks in this area. > >Regards > >Peter > >Bryan Slim wrote: >>Is there SKS who can tell if there was a Mill lane in Brierley >>Hill in 1860s - '70s. >> >>If so where was it? >> >> >>Currently cross eyed by searches of the relevant Godfrey maps and A/Z >> >> >> >> >>Thanks >> >>Bryan Slim >>Vancouver, Canada >>------------------------------------- >>The only List that specifically covers the whole of the Black >>Country.
