Hi All Maybe some of you out there could point my thinking in the right direction. My grandmother was born in 1883 her name was Minnie Jane Dudley. Her father was John Dudley Simms. Her mother Mary Ann Simms. On John and Mary's marriage certificate he goes as John Dudley Simms, his father Edwayd Dudley married an Ann Simms so he seems to have taken on the Simms surname. So my gran is Minnie Jane Dudley (surname) Simms. When she marries she is just known as Minnie Jane Dudley on the marriage certificate father John Dudley (no Simms mentioned). Could the surname have been dropped just like that, she is born Simms and nothing is mentioned on the marriage certificate. Or is there a reason out there for the dropping of it.
