Hello Listers I've just become the CoOrdinator for the county of Staffordshire on FreeReg and am writing to ask whether any of you would like to consider becoming part of the team, helping to transcribeStaffordshire parish records I've only just started this voluntary post but want to get together a list of people interested so that when everything makes sense to me Staffs will be off and running! I can then get together the training over the internet for you. As you all know, in order to find out information about our families we need records to have been transcribed by someone in the first place, so we are looking for volunteer transcribers to undertake transcriptions of registers. The only requirement is a good eye for reading handwriting (but many of the records are already in printed books), patience and some very basic skills with a computer. It is a function that can be performed anywhere in the world, and you spend asmuch or as little time as you want on it - an hour a month, a week or more, totally up to you. You won't be left on your own, but will have my help and support always. Full training will be given and you'll do 'practice runs' until you - and I - feel that you are fullycompetent. If you're interested - and I'd love you to join! have a look at the home page of FreeReg which gives great information on how it was formed, its aims, etc. I love transcribing for FreeReg and am fully committed to their objective to provide free Internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, which have been extracted from parish registers and non-conformist church records in the UK.
