Hello Listers An Update on Staffordshire FreeREG When I took over as Staffordshire Coordinator for FreeREG I found dozens of files of records which were online, but had not been recorded as such on the STS County page. Therefore, although they were searchable online, no-one knew exactly what was there. Sometime this week the monthly update will be available and these records will now be showing as present - and credit will be given to those transcribers who put in so much hard work. I'll give you the link to the page as there really are too many to go into details here, suffice to say that the following places do have records online - Wolverhampton (many, inc many n.c. churchs), some for Bilston, Ettingshall, Wednesfield, West Bromwich, Willenhall. New records going online this month - Betley 1538 onwards for Baptisms, Burials and Marriages Ellastone 1538 onwards - Ba., Bu., Ma. Gnosall 1572 onwards - Ba, Bu, Ma. Penn 1569 - 1790 - Ba Trentham 1538-1703 Ba, 1612 - 1758 Ma, 1598 -1634 Bu Those new records were the only 'stock' of records Staffordshire held. So now its my job to build up that stock again - any help or suggestions on this will be gratefully received! There's a long way to go! (please reply off list) The response to my plea for volunteer transcribers was so successful, and already I have a wonderful team of people already working on Stoke on Trent Parish Records. They are a great team, and I feel very lucky to be working with them. More new transcribers are currently going through the training process. I'm hoping that shortly we'll be working on many more Donated fiche are always welcome, and if you are interested in becoming a transcriber, for both of these could you contact me off list, so that in the case of fiche etc we can look at copyright. I'll send out an update like this every month and here is the link to our county page which shows a breakdown of the records online http://www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/sts.htm Hope that helps Lesley
