Hi to fellow Baggott (etc) researchers. The family of Humfrey Baggott, Clerkenwell, London, Middlesex Many Baggott trees drawn up before the actual pictures of the London Parish Registers were to be found online had only LDS IGI to rely upon for researching the Baggotts of London. IGI online contains very few burials. One name that appears in many trees is that of Humfrey Baggott/Bagot/Biggot said to be born around 1577 in Norwich and living in London. I have listed below the entries from the actual London registers, which are very hard to read online, most of these entries are not yet on LDS IGI. Quite a few trees attribute descendants to Humfrey's son William born in 1625 but sadly he died aged six months. First there were two marriages for Humfrey Baggott, - The first, in 1613 to Elizabeth Taylor, takes place in the very parish where all the children listed in the registers were baptised or buried, Clerkenwell. This marriage is not on IGI. - The second in St Mary Mounthaw, City of London, in 1617 to Elizabeth Twentyman; this is the one often quoted in the family trees; this marriage is on IGI. Entries in London parish registers for Humfrey Baggott - St. James, Clerkenwell, London 1613 - Marriage, Humfrey Baggot to Elizabeth Taylor, August 4th, 1613 St Mary Mounthaw, London 1617 - Marriage, Humfrey Baggott married Elizabeth Twentyman on October 7th, 1617 St. James, Clerkenwell, London 1618 - Richard, son of Humfrey Baggott, baptised, August 19th, 1618 1621 - Humfrey born to Humfrey Baggott & Elizabeth, baptised March 15th, 1621 1620 - "Cicely", a daughter Humfrey Baggott baptised, January 23, 1620 (1619 old calendar) 1621 - "Cicely", a daughter Humfrey Baggott buried, April 15th, 1621 1625 - William, son of Humfrey Baggott & Elizabeth, christened, January 1st, 1625(1624 old calendar) 1625 - Humfrey, son of Humfrey, buried, June 9th, 1625 1625 - William, son of Humfrey, buried, June 9th, 1625 (Note: 1625 was the year of the worst London plague until the Great Plague of 1665) 1627 - John, a son born to Humfrey Baggott, christened January 6th 1628 (1627 old calendar) 1630 - John, son of Humfrey Baggott, buried, October 13th, 1630 1634 - John, son born to Humfrey Baggott, christened, November 16th, 1634. I have seen no evidence to prove that the Humfrey Baggott born in Norwich is the same one who appears in London. This would need a close inspection of the Norwich parish registers to see if he appeared in them later in his life; he doesn't on IGI but that lists only a tiny proportion of the real parish register entries. It is possible that Elizabeth Taylor died, maybe in childbirth, and Humfrey remarried Elizabeth Twentyman but there is no evidence for Elizabeth Taylor's death that I have found so far. A William was born to Humfrey and Elizabeth in 1625 but he was buried six months later along with his brother Humfrey, probably victims of the plague of 1625. So William could not have been the father of Thomas Baggott shown in many trees as born in 1646. These burials are not on IGI. I realise these findings go contrary to some very well known trees, I'll leave researchers to make their own minds up about the implications. Corrections and feedback very welcome. Lawrence
