I'm thinking of buying a subscription to one of the online sites such as Ancestry and Find My Past. Any recommendations from people already using one of these sites would be most helpful. Thanks Keith
Keith, Not knowing what and where you are researching makes it difficult to give a good recommendation. I am finding I often use familysearch.org to start my search and then findmypast to find and trace families via the census but I have also used Ancestry to start with. The biggest problem I have found with any site is mistakes whether it was the census enumerator, the person giving the information, transcription error or even the parish records as often the record was not written down at the time of the ceremony. My Charlton family has been written with expected Charteton and variations but also Carlton and Charton to give you an example. My suggestion would be to try one for a period of time then switch to the other if you get too frustrated with the difficulty of judging where there is an error. Genealogy is like doing a jigsaw puzzle that you are missing pieces and when you find the missing piece you find you are missing more pieces.
