Timothy Spall's character (Barry) was originally scripted as a Brummie, but his wife (who's from Hednesford) suggested a Black Country guy from Wolverhampton. He never quite got the difference in accent though did he? I remember reading an article years ago when he said that he just couldn't believe that anyone would say "Tara a bit" and was going to refuse to say it, until his wife put him right!
