I thought that for most of the film the accent sounded reasonably genuine as did the dialect words used, although I did think there was an occasional funny both with accent ( a touch of Scottish I thought once) and the dialect. However I've no doubt there would be regional variations across the black country I've always regarded Timothy Spall as doing a Birmingham or perhaps a more general West Midland accent, I don't particularly remember him using any dialect words, but it was some time ago that I last saw the program. Having been born and bred in the Black Country I'm putting in my two 'pennorth. I agree with Peter Wharton's comments. There definitely is regional variations across the Black Country. Timothy Spall in "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" was supposed to have come from Wolverhampton, but his accent was definitely a Brummie and no, he didn't use dialect words.
