    1. Re: [Black Country] "Landed Proprietor of Convent" ?
    2. Ahh, thank you, Polly. She died at St. George's Retreat, Lewes, Sussex. Yes, perhaps she lived at the Convent Weymouth before being hospitalized at St. George's Retreat.. She lived in London in 1901 and was also born in London. Perhaps sometime after 1901 she moved to a convent and from there was hospitalized before her death in 1910. That makes sense. And Enrique was a "landed proprietor" of something, meaning that he owned land and had a business on it? Of course this leads me to wonder what business and what land, so now I'll be off to locate those. On the other hand, their children were all born in Columbia and he died there. I'll bet he was a "landed proprietor" in Columbia. I've been told that she had difficulty settling the estate because of dissension among his relatives, and came back to England after the settlement. So I think she must have lived an independent life in London until age forced her into the assistance provided by a convent, and then was hospitalized when health issues became acute. I think I've got it now. Thanks very, very much! Hi Lois >>Widow of Enrique Paris, Landed Proprietor of the Convent Weymouth<< You don't tell us where she actually died, but I would assume from this it was in a hospital, or at least a place that wasn't her normal residence, because what it means that she was (1) the Widow of Enrique PARIS, Landed Proprietor and (2) that her normal address was (ie that she was "of") the Convent, Weymouth. Hi Listers, Although this particular death certificate comes from Lewes, Sussex, I am hoping to draw on the expertise of this list. I think the answers will apply generally. I have a death certificate that says the deceased was the "Widow of Enrique Paris, Landed Proprietor of the Convent Weymouth". What can that mean? Did he own the land the convent was on? Was he the owner or manager of the convent? He was of Spanish descent, born in Bogata, Columbia. How would he have a convent? I thought churches owned convents. Can someone help me understand this?
