    3. Hi Judy and Lawrence >>An Edward Baggott married Elizabeth Diofs in Kingswinford in January 1705 but I have always wondered if that was her real name or a transcription error, have you seen the original script? I haven't so you may have one up on me there. The only place I have seen Diofs is on the LDS IGI site and copied onto many trees online. I would love to see the original and decide for myself. It sounds Dutch but even there I have found no such name. There was an Elizabeth Dicks, baptised in Dudley in 1681, that would make her 24 at marriage if it is her? I don't know.<< That sounds quite reasonable I can imagine someone reading the old hand Dicks as Diofs. although normally"fs" is a mis-transcription of a double "ss" where the first one is the old "long s" - which even occurs in printed work too. However since sending my first email on this subject I have been thinking about it and I wonder if it is a form of the name which today is DAYUS? Polly My Edward Baggott of the same period marries a Margaret Wannerton in Old Swinford in 1699. Both Edward Baggott and Elizabeth in Kingswinford and Edward Baggott and Margaret in Old Swinford had sons named Samuel, so your tree must come down from the Kingswinford line. As I recall Edward and Elizabeth had three children, Samuel, William and Elizabeth. My cousin descends through Edward and Margaret's son John, baptised 1725 in Old Swinford. I have not claimed any ancestors prior to Edward's father Edward in the mid-1600s as I cannot be sure of their line. I know a lot of folks go back through Humfrey Baggott in London but the son they all use to descend from him actually died in the plague at the age of 5 so that doesn't work for me. ...at least that is my interpretation. I have found so many Baggott charts going back to before the Normans with glaring errors in them that I never quite know what to believe so I'm very cautious. Gosh these Baggotts are fun. 3. Hi Judy, Thanks for getting back to me. One of my 3xgreat grandmothers was Hannah Lloyd, born 1789 in Wolverley. Her parents were Thomas an Elizabeth Lloyd The Baggott family is not my direct line, I am researching it for a Baggott cousin once removed, but what a list of challenges it uncovers. An Edward Baggott married Elizabeth Diofs in Kingswinford in January 1705 but I have always wondered if that was her real name or a transcription error, have you seen the original script? 3. My own list of particular genealogical headaches as follows; HIGGS (Wednesbury, Willenhall, Wolverhampton, & Penn, following 1757 marriage there. Also a different maternal line in Brierley Hill and Kingswinford pre 1803) TUCKEY (West Bromwich, Tipton, Wednesbury, & Deepfields/Coseley following Wolverhampton marriage in 1836 - not born in county on 1841 census and died in 1849 cholera epidemic so don't know where the line originates) PERCY & SHEWARD (in Dudley from early 1800s - previously from Salop & Worcs.) TAYLOR & RAMSDALE (also RAMSDELL, ROMSWELL, RAMSALL et al) in Wednesbury (later 18th century plus) possibly with Walsall connections SHORTER (sometimes SHORTHOUSE) in Willenhall BEARDMORE (inc BEARDSMORE, BEAMAN et al) in Wednesbury, Coseley & Ettingshall back to 1763 SHAKESPEARE (Netherton & Brierley Hill) especially if using first name 'Issachar' which comes down through marriage with maternal HIGGS line. JEAVONS (of Coseley & Sedgley) - two lots, probably interrelated, from early 1800s HALL, SMITH, NICHOLLS, JOHNSON, FULLWOOD, PARKER, BRADLEY (Sedgley & Kingswinford) back to 1684 with many ????s HAYWARD in Sedgley & Coseley from 1865 (previously from Bucks.) 3. Rita Six Ways Smethwick was very near to Baldwin Street, just around the corner into Messenger Road. The area has now been totally redeveloped and bears little relationship to the days when Six Ways was a thriving hub of Smethwick life. If you look on an old map of the area, 1950s and before, this should illustrate how it was then. Hope this helps.
