3. Time travel is theoretically possible (backwards only). As physicists would say it is simply a matter of engineering. As for the diseases.....just get up to date on your shots- smallpox, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps, etc. And also a good supply of antibiotics- both oral and injectables. As far as language goes that might not be too bit of a problem. I can recall as a Canadian teenager (but born in Ramsgate) being plunked down in New Invention, Willenhall and while the accents were thick and the slang hard to follow things were not incomprehensible once I got them to talk slowly and explain the slang. I actually became pretty fluent in "yam-yam" talk <LOL>. Cheers "To err is human. To forgive is canine." Paul K. 2. Good idea, Peter, but she died in 1838. Haven't found the second husband's death yet, but he does not appear on a census. Did find two of the children, both servants together. Perhaps both parents had died and the four children had to scatter. Sometimes it would be so nice to be able to go back and help them. 2. Mike, thank you. That was very clear. My, what a picture emerges. A likely teenager already a widow. The witnesses were a couple born in 1747 and 1751, so possibly grandparents. Much more to learn about this family. And a child thrown into the picture makes me rethink the parentage of the family she had with the second husband. Interesting. Thanks for sharing your expertise! 3. Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my earlier request, especially Velda who forwarded me a copy of the actual census return (which confirms the address as Ulet Hall). Apologies for the delay in replying, but I've been a little busy with other things. Whilst I recognise that "Howlett" and "Ulet" are phonetically similar, I do not believe they are the same place. My reasoning for this: 1. the 1881 census only lists 2 occupants of Ulet Hall, a farmer and his wife. I believe Howlett Hall is much bigger and would therefore have more residents; 2. my relatives were not rich and therefore could not have afforded such a large property and 3. whilst it is in the same area, they are still in the scale of things some distance apart. I've tried looking on old maps, but cannot find any reference. Have spent some time recently in the Alveley area and managed to solve other puzzles, this one will have to wait a bit longer until I can look at other records. Regards, Geoff > Maurice, Geoff, > > I've looked on an 1884 map of the area in more detail and I still think > "Utel" is "Howtel" due to the close proximity to the adjacent properties > named on the census sheet before and after the page you described. 3. Hello again Margaret. Didn't mean to send the previous message as it was incomplete. The PRICE name (should I say the name is popular as opposed to common!!) I've never found a connection to my family but still keep trying. JOHN PRICE, born c1805 Dudley. 2nd wife Jane Jenkins, Westminster. He had moved to London, his first wife died there. He, his second wife Jane and family came back to West Brom. They lived at 38 Lyttleton Street for I suppose 30 years or so). John was a Coal Dealer, but can't find a registration. His father John was also a Coal Dealer in Dudley. Children of his of whom I have some information - * William (b c1840 Dudley) married Elizabeth ? from Ireland * John James, married Sarah ? They lived in West Bromwich (maybe moved later to Northop, Wales) * Sarah, married Thomas Cooper, they lived at Key hill, and later in Barr St, Birmingham. * Robert Edward, married Hannah Groom - came to New Zealand * George, married Selina Pritchard, they lived in West Brom. Then moved to Lancashire. George died there. * Eliza, married Samuel Groom - came to New Zealand. John Price's other children of which I have no information are - Elizabeth, James, Charles, Mary Ann, Isaiah, Hannah, Rosa and Harriet. I have written, just to put the names out there again. So I don't think it will help you very much Margaret, sorry, although you just never know. If any of descendants of Jonah Timmins of Gornal Wood, died 1886, would like this Will and Bible I would be happy to pass them on. The Will is in excellent condition but the Bible is a little worse for wear. On reading the Will, it seems that Jonah had several children :- Sons, Alfred Timmins & John Timmins Daughters, Rosannah, Teresa, Sarah Jane, Martha and Harriot. I often travel to the West Midlands so it would be easy for me to meet up with who-ever claims them. Regards, Lynn Yates, Mid Wales.
