3. Several years ago I organize a Brierley Hill Grammar School reunion, and Ann TIMMINS was one of the students. Her father's name was William (I think). Ann had died and I spoke with her mother on the phone. The address I have was Kingswinford. Ann's mother may have passed also by now, but I can call the telephone number that I have, if no one else claims the Bible or Will. I live in USA. Had I been local, I would have called the number before writing this email. > 1. Fw: Fwd: WILL OF JONAH TIMMINS - Gornal Wood > (yates.lynn1947@tiscali.co.uk) > > >

1. [Black Country] Fw: Fwd: WILL OF JONAH TIMMINS - Gornal Wood
2. Hi, I am reposting my email from August concerning the old Will and Bible belonging to the TIMMINS FAMILY of Lower Gornal. I have since looked up the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census and found the Timmins family living in Bird Street, Lower Gornal. The occupations of Alfred Timmins and other adults in the family were Miners, Chain Makers and Nail Makers. I would dearly like to reunite the Will and Bible with the Timmins family of Lower Gornal. Please get in touch if you have any connection. Many thanks, Lynn Yates - Mid Wales. ----Original Message---- From: lpy.llwyn@googlemail.com Date: 31/08/2011 10:56 To: "yates.lynn1947"<yates.lynn1947@tiscali.co.uk> Subj: Fwd: WILL OF JONAH TIMMINS - Gornal Wood ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lynn Yates <lpy.llwyn@googlemail.com> Date: Sun, Aug 28, 2011 at 12:59 PM Subject: WILL OF JONAH TIMMINS - Gornal Wood To: Black Country Rootsweb <eng-black-country@rootsweb.com> Hi, Following the death of my elderly Mom recently, I have been clearing out her house in Wolverhampton and have come across an old handwritten Will and family Bible which I know do not relate to any of our side of the family but must have been left at her house by a gentleman friend who has also now died. If any of descendants of Jonah Timmins of Gornal Wood, died 1886, would like this Will and Bible I would be happy to pass them on. The Will is in excellent condition but the Bible is a little worse for wear. On reading the Will, it seems that Jonah had several children :- Sons, Alfred Timmins & John Timmins Daughters, Rosannah, Teresa, Sarah Jane, Martha and Harriot. I often travel to the West Midlands so it would be easy for me to meet up with who-ever claims them. Regards, Lynn Yates, Mid Wales.

Hi Lois >>Widow of Enrique Paris, Landed Proprietor of the Convent Weymouth<< You don't tell us where she actually died, but I would assume from this it was in a hospital, or at least a place that wasn't her normal residence, because what it means that she was (1) the Widow of Enrique PARIS, Landed Proprietor and (2) that her normal address was (ie that she was "of") the Convent, Weymouth. Hi Listers, Although this particular death certificate comes from Lewes, Sussex, I am hoping to draw on the expertise of this list. I think the answers will apply generally. I have a death certificate that says the deceased was the "Widow of Enrique Paris, Landed Proprietor of the Convent Weymouth". What can that mean? Did he own the land the convent was on? Was he the owner or manager of the convent? He was of Spanish descent, born in Bogata, Columbia. How would he have a convent? I thought churches owned convents. Can someone help me understand this? 1. Re: [Black Country] "Landed Proprietor of Convent" ?
2. Ahh, thank you, Polly. She died at St. George's Retreat, Lewes, Sussex. Yes, perhaps she lived at the Convent Weymouth before being hospitalized at St. George's Retreat.. She lived in London in 1901 and was also born in London. Perhaps sometime after 1901 she moved to a convent and from there was hospitalized before her death in 1910. That makes sense. And Enrique was a "landed proprietor" of something, meaning that he owned land and had a business on it? Of course this leads me to wonder what business and what land, so now I'll be off to locate those. On the other hand, their children were all born in Columbia and he died there. I'll bet he was a "landed proprietor" in Columbia. I've been told that she had difficulty settling the estate because of dissension among his relatives, and came back to England after the settlement. So I think she must have lived an independent life in London until age forced her into the assistance provided by a convent, and then was hospitalized when health issues became acute. I think I've got it now. Thanks very, very much! Best Wishes, Lois -----Original Message----- From: Polly Rubery <polly@rowberry.org> To: eng-black-country@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, Sep 28, 2011 3:00 am Subject: Re: [Black Country] "Landed Proprietor of Convent" ? 1. Re: [Black Country] "Landed Proprietor of Convent" ?
2. Thank you, Paul. I may not have stated it clearly enough, confused as I am. Eliza Stronach Paris died, and under Occupation it said, "Widow of Enrique Paris, Landed Proprietor of the Convent Weymouth". She died at St. George's Retreat on Ditchling Rd., Burgess Hill, Lewes, Sussex. She was 85 and died in 1910. The institution is now senior citizen homes with some assisted living available. Their website says it started as a mental institution. Her Columbian husband, Enrique Paris, was the son of Simon Bolivar's best friend, a liberator of Columbia and owner of an emerald mine. So the family had money. Maybe he bought the land the convent was on? You may be right that he lived at Convent Weymouth. Or maybe he was the proprietor of the convent and lived in Weymouth? It does say "proprietor of the" May have to remain inscrutable!
