    3. Hi Pat Not sure but we used to use "egg colour" in the bakery trade, it was an orangey powder and watered down gave a rich yellow colour like egg yolks. I believe that also has faded from use. I tend to use yellow colour (from most supermarkets). I would imagine the result should be similar. Kind regards Dave Regards David Allen Tech. I.O.S.H; Cert. 1. [Black Country] Batter mix
    2. Hi folks A few years ago ( a good many actually) my mother would mix some flour and water to make batter for fish or scallops. She used to colour it with batter colouring. Does anyone have any idea what was used as the colouring? As I recall, water was mxed with an orangey coloured powder which was obtained from the chemist at the bottom of News Street, at the junction with the High street, West Bromwich. I think the chemist was called Bell and Jones. For some reason, it was discontinued, I seem to think there was some sort of health risk attached to it. . Pat Allen (Leicestershire) Best wishes to all for Christmas and the New Year.

    2. Harrison Genealogy
    3. Dear all, The following announcement has been made today from the UKBMD website. I thought listers on the Staffs BMD List would like to be aware of this addition. <snip> We're pleased to announce that Shropshire now has a local BMD web site. Initially there will only be marriage indexes online, but as time permits births and death indexes will be added too. Currently the data is from just the Shrewsbury region, with the intention that other areas' data will be added, again when time permits. The web site address is http://www.ShropshireBMD.info/ Note that this is a ".info" domain name rather than the more usual ".org.uk" used by the other BMD sites. As always though, the recommendation is to follow the links on the Local BMD page of the main UKBMD web site. Many thanks to Karen Burton and Lorna Hullah and their colleagues at the Shrewsbury Register Office for making this web site possible. <snip> Regards Bill Harrison webmaster Staffs BMD

Within the parish Dudley Castle and Priory were declared to be in Staffordshire as a result of a papal decree in 1238. Dudley county borough briefly became a part of Staffordshire as a result of local government reorganisation in 1966 until 1974 when it became a part of the new county of West Midlands. Parish records are deposited at Dudley Archives and the parish is listed under Worcestershire in the IGI. 3. Hello Geoff In 1863 the junction where Sutton Road meets Birmingham Road and the other roads that joined this junction were known as Five Ways. In later years Springhill Road was cut making it Sixways Junction. My husband says I should just tell you that Five Ways is now Six Ways. Just a junction of roads. Sutton Road, Birmingham Road, Jesson Road, Lysway Street, Old Birmingham Road and Springhill Road.
