    1. RE: [B.C.] FamilyRelatives site
    2. Judy Evans
    3. Hi Wendy, I've just been using up my credits on Family Relatives. For most years it is just the same as using 1837.com and Ancestry BUT the 1866 - 1920 searches, are superior. For 1866 - 1920 it's like using FreeBMD in that you key in a name, registration area and it comes up the results for that name and place only. For example yesterday I was looking for COYNE born Walsall so that's what I keyed in and it gave me 140 Coynes - it gives 20 names per page and you use 2 units per page. The entries from 1911 - 1920 also give you the mothers maiden name. The same kind of search applies to marriages but there is an extra button to click so if you want to check the spouse you can do so with one click of the button (it gives you the names on the register page not the individual name). All in all I think it's like the other sites but better for the 1866 - 1920 range. If you prepared to plough through the images then Ancestry is good as it's free at the moment (I think) providing you register with them. Judy -----Original Message----- From: Wendy Lewis [mailto:wendy.linedancer@btinternet.com] Sent: 03 March 2006 09:11 To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [B.C.] FamilyRelatives site Just wondered whether anyone has had any experience of using the familyrelatives.org site and whether it differs from sites such as 1837online.com, etc which use the scanned images from the General Register indexes? The familyrelatives site claims to have a fully searchable database for Births, Marriages and Deaths, so can one actually search on full name, rather than just be directed to each page which might or might not contain the required surname? Any thoughts gratefully received. I already subscribe to 1837online, Ancestry, British Origins and FamilyHistoryOnline, so it is becoming an expensive hobby. Is there any benefit in joining FamilyRelatives too? Many thanks for any opinions on this. 1. RE: [B.C.] Verification of age at death-LAWTON
    2. >I looked at the 1837 site for death of Ann Maria Brighton --snip--- in June 1889, West Brom., 6B/ 471 there is one which could be age 35, but it could also be age 85. The simplest thing is to order the certificate, either from the GRO or the local Registrar (Sandwell(?)). If you specify on your order form that the age should be 35, then if the search bounces: 1. from the GRO you will get part of your fee back, 2. from the local registrar you will get your entire fee back (I think). I've been tracing Ann Maria Jeffs, born Darlaston 1854 who married James Brighton in 1874 at All Saints, Moxley. He died in 1878 (age 23) and I think the marriage I found for Ann Maria Brighton to Jabez Lawton in March 1885, West Bromwich, 6B/ 761 is her second marriage. However, in checking the 1891 census, I find no Ann or Ann Maria Lawton. I do find a Jabez Lawton living with his parents, age 38, a widower. Looks like he has 15 & 13 year old children as well as a son Jabez, age 4, so was most likely a second marriage for him as well. (RG 12/ 2278 Folio 76, page 24). I looked at the 1837 site for death of Ann Maria Brighton and found one in March 1886, West Brom., but aged 0. But in June 1889, West Brom., 6B/ 471 there is one which could be age 35, but it could also be age 85. Even increasing the size couldn't help me discern if it is 35 or 85. Is there anyone who has access that could help me determine the age, please? And, if possible, could someone check the marriage? In the 1891 census cited above, Jabez was living in the Eccl. Parish of All Saints, West Brom., so this might be the place of marriage. Hoping someone can help.
