    3. Hi Life gets complicated does it not, I left Walsall in my mid twenties, and having now lived in Australia for over 40 years I had been bought up to be 1 Not in the Black Country 2 To be a proud South Stafford, in particular the 5th South Staffords which had a high percentage of Walsall men in it. Now I find I'm a Northerner in the West Midlands and of course in the Black Country. I have of course given up on my Walsall accent, after all its difficult to get the Aussies to understand English never mind a Walsall accent. I no longer argue re being in the Black Country or not, after all how can I argue with Dave Ogden, but he does come from Wednesbury and that says it all ( I did attend the Tech College at Wednesbury for 4/5 years) I have come to the conclusion I need a TRANSLATOR John Steane ----- Original Message ----- From: "cassy" <cassyfranklin@blueyonder.co.uk> To: <ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 06, 2006 4:02 AM Subject: Re: [B.C.] attn cassy! > Okay Millie I have no idea what Walsall comes under but I will take your > word for it its north But please don't upset the Northerners has we > could have a riot on the list (vbg) > Cassy

We have to be very werrie some times who we let have our family tree and we let people have it because we get excited about finding extra members of our family so we willing give it , But Mellie is dead right , some people abuse this and I know this for a fact They alter our tree put in what they think, to add more names to the family tree they don't check census or any facts and even add on people who are no relation to make the tree bigger , When doing family tree's always try and check the census ,and back track before that make sure you check the parish records where possible The IGI does help but its not 100% and many people have put things in that are not fact mostly guess work Think twice before you let a stranger have your tree I know several people who have really regretted letting people have there tree AND THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO SORT OUT THE MESS Cassy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mellie" <chouikh2006@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 05, 2006 9:54 PM Subject: [B.C.] ROLL CALL ~ Mellie Being serious! > It doesn't happen often so take heed! > > whilst we are doing roll calls and swapping info back and forth in the > true spirit of genealogy, and there are, as always new listers, who may > not be aware of certain facets of family history, can we just take a > minute to think about "netiqette" and "courtesy" > > I have had cause to explain a bit about this to someone just today, in the > context of information in other peoples trees that you receive. > > I am going to say this in the first person, because these are my own > personal feelings on the matter, and lucky for me they coincide with "N&C" > > If I have given to you any part of my family tree, I expect you to treat > the information contained with respect, and me with courtesy, I will have > told you that you can reproduce any part of my own information ie personal > information about ME, I am an open book and have no problem with it, I > have no problem with you sharing the information with others, however, If > you are going to reproduce this information into the public domain, ie: > the internet ~ your own web site or a web site that you have subscribed > to, where the information can be viewed by anyone, please remember that > there will be information contained in the tree that OTHER living people > in that tree may not wish to be made public AND THEY HAVE NOT GIVE YOU > PERMISSION TO DISCLOSE IT. in the case of web sites that you subscribe to, > you may be making the information "theirs". some web sites only allow > people to view trees by your invitation, which isn't so bad, however you > donlt know what is going to happen to the in! > formation afterwards, and you still dont have permission! > In the case of familysearch.org my rellies, alive or dead, will be sealed > to the mormon temple, which is why they gather the information from parish > registers in the first place and it can be very difficult to get them > removed, and a persons religious affilliation is their own personal > affair. > > for my own part I can state, that I have NEVER entered my own or any other > persons information onto ANY website, of ANY description, your information > has remained with me, and been shared only with my co-researcher, or other > actual family members who are also researching when we have swapped > current info.
