Does anyone know when the Sunday School Anniversary will be held at Ruiton Chapel this year. It used to be towards the end of April. I will be in England in April and would like to attend. When I was a little girl my grandmother always used to take me there the saturday before to put flowers on the grave and to clean it and trim all the grass around it. We did not scrub it because it was concrete and brick but I certainly watched people doing it as it was traditional then. My great grandparents Sarah ROLLASON nee TIGHE and John ROLLASON are in that particular tomb along with the wife and children of Arthur Adolphus ROLLASON. Also her parents James & Ann TIGHE are buried near the south gate. The present chapel was probably built of stone supplied by John's father, Thomas Rollason/Rollinson who owned the quarry just to the west of the chapel. Brabara Haner in grey southern Californiia

Hi Pat Looking at your last, I see a glimmer of a possible connection between our Coopers and an interesting one at that. It may be more for yours than for mine. Or it may apply to both. But, beyond the Coopers, I see Gil must be related to Carl Higgs of Amblecote, Stourbridge. Carl wrote me last July about a Cooper family related to him, that might also connect with mine if I can get back that far. His paper mentions that an Edward Darby married Mary Cooper at the Dudley Friends Meeting House, 17 January 1671. Mary Cooper, it seems, was a daughter of blacksmith Humphrey Cooper of Moden Hill (between Sedgley and Upper Gornal). But his papers had much more about Parkes/Parkshouse/Persehouse, Darbys and Hancox...at Sedgeley amongst other places. As well as connections with the Suttons, Hughes, Jeavons, Whitehouse, Underhill, Smallman, Caddick, and Turton. Through Margaret Darby nee Parkshouse there is a connection with the Suttons. Some Suttons were cousins to the Tudors as well as the Stuarts. Now what can you tell me about your Coopers? By the way, how far apart are Bilston and Moden Hill? Best Regards Bob Cooper, Oceanside Calif. > -----Original Message----- > From: Pat Hayward [mailto:hayward325@btinternet.com] > Sent: Wednesday, March 08, 2006 1:01 PM > To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [B.C.] Roll Call > > > Here are some of my husband Gil's name interests > > In the Walsall area > COOPER, GOLD / GOOLD/ GOULD, GOODWIN, GREEN, HALE, HARVEY, > HAYWARD, MOORE, WHISTANCE / WHISTON > > In Wednesbury > GRIFFITHS, HUGHES, BURCOT / BURKITT, PARTRIDGE. > > At Sedgley > COOPER, DARBY, HANCOX, HUGHES, PARKES/PARKESHOUSE, SMITH, plus > others I cannot remember at the moment > > Pat. > > > ==== ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY Mailing List ==== > The Assistant List Admins are Jean Morgan and Jan Ross > (Couldn't do it without those two great ladies) >

Hi Dave I'm responding to the message from Dave Bowater, who indicated that he had an interest in Mallin. My grandfather and great-grandfather were Albert and William Alfred Mallin respectively. William Alfred Mallin, born 16/9/1869, died in about 1903 contracting pneumonia after jumping into a lake to rescue a child who had fallen in. My grandfather, Albert Mallin was about 4 years old at the time. I have also recently found William Alfred Mallin's father - Alfred Mallin who died on 19/4/1879. I have found William Alfred Mallin had siblings: Agnes b. 20/12/1870 Ann Elizabeth b. 2/7/1873 Edwin b. 1/12/1876 John Everard b. 12/10/1878 Do you have connections to any of these people? I have found the family to be quite elusive so far! Annette Mann indicated on 7/3/06 that she is looking for BUSHELL. After my great grandfather's death in 1903 approx. my great grandmother remarried to a Thomas BUSHELL on 16/10/1904 and they subsequently had a child Henry, who was my grandfather's half brother. Annette, are my Bushell's connected to yours. Lynne Mercurio Adelaide South Australia

hi can anyone tell me if there is a site of old 1800s photo's of boat people & canal boats in tipton thanks sue
That is a curious one. My Coopers from Bilston had a similar naming peculiarity but, so far, I have not been able to find any solid links to anyone else (Tony Cooper is a possible exception). My Cooper tracing begins about 1815 with George and Abigail Cooper. George was into iron and coal as was most of Bilston in those days. After several children, Abigail died then George married Sarah. They had several children. Thru all this time, they were probably living on Church St. in Bilston. But I'm sure of very little. My gggrandfather James Cooper (middle name probably Wright)left England late in 1850 for Victoria, BC (a Colony run by the Hudson Bay Company at that time). Another somewhat unusual event was the family returned to Wolverhampton from about 1857 to 1860. He gave his son Charles the middle name Villiers. And Charles peculiarly named his eldest son Pelham Villiers. If I have it right, Pelham Villiers was a prominent MP from Wolverhampton for a very long time. And he was very liberal wrst Colonies. Please keep in touch and let me know what you find. > -----Original Message----- > From: Pat Hayward [mailto:hayward325@btinternet.com] > Sent: Wednesday, March 08, 2006 12:50 PM > To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [B.C.] BARNETT, COOPER, SMITH > > > Are you interested in the name BARNET(T) ? > Have you found a link with the name COOPER? > > I have Charles & Elizabeth BARNETT (brassworker) > who had a daughter Jane born 1810. > It puzzled me when I found the name COOPER as a second name for their > daughter Elizabeth Cooper Barnett bapt 1 Jan 1815 West Bromwich.. > > It also puzzled me when Jane Barnett married Samuel SMITH (gunborer) and > named their son William COOPER SMITH. > There must be some reason for the Cooper name but I have not > found the answer yet.
