When I wrote about Mr and Mrs Tickell I forgot to mention that they had a son called John Thomas! Or so I am reliably informed. Jim.

Hello Wendy, My Grandfather was married at the Trinity Church in Harbourne in 1892, after searching I found it was in Smethwick, Staffordshire. Hope this is of use to you. Regards, Keith.

I am sorry to have taken so long to reply. In short no. Here is what I have. The location implies there is a common link but it predates my information. I have the following data on Westwoods. Samuel Westwood Labourer b Brockmoor estimated c1800 . He had children 1) Mary Anne Westwood b 1820, Married Joseph Hickman 24.11.1845 Mary Anne died 20.3.188? Married at St Mary's Kingswinford. Had 5 children. I have data on them. 2) Ephraim Westwood b 1826 d 29.7.1901 married Phoebe ? who was born 1827 and died 7.9.1908 at Russett or Russell Lane Brockmoor . I have no data on any children. My line follows the Hickman link. They were all Brockmoor and Bromley based, with a concentration on Bromley Lane which runs from Wordesley to Brockmoor. When the Earls of Dudley sold off land (Around Summerhills/ Summer House (?) estate,(known locally as "The Tump)) the later Hickman's (by then a big local builder)bought and developed it around 1936 plus/minus. Now 100% dense housing . Cheers Roger Thompson Pete Lamberg wrote: > Hi Roger, have you by any chance seen a Ruth Westwood born Bromley or > Brockmore 1819? Have been trying to track down my g g grandfather, Samuel ROLLINSON, who was b. ~1820, d. Oct 1887, buried in St Raymond's Catholic Church cemetery in Bronx, NY. He immigrated to US, New York City area, sometime before 1858, when he married Ellen Keegan, b. approx 1835 in Ireland, d. Feb 1880 in Yonkers, NY of typhoid fever. On the census here in US his occupation was listed as "scavenger". That's all I know about him, not where he was originally from, immigration date, family in England, where in England, etc. Thanks in advance for any info on this elusive person. Joy E. Hi Listers, Pat, Gil, Ruth, Carl, Nick; Julie, Tony and all you who have helped me blast the brickwall. I understand that the census takers occasionally registered visiting relatives, especially youngsters, as servants? Jane (or is it Jake? hard to read) Parkes and Maria Murry may be examples from this (augmented) 1841 census: Also, would someone clarify the '41 census recording of age policy? Do they round adults age to nearest decade? I have George Cooper, 1st wife Abigail, 2nd wife Sarah in Bilston about 1815 to 1860. He was into coal & iron. 16+/- children including: George (age 50 '41 Census Bilston District 16 south side of Church St., page 1/39) occup. iron monger Sarah (age 30 '41 Census) George (1814 IGI), Mary Ann (1816 IGI?), Joseph (1818 IGI), William (1819 IGI) (1821 '41 Cens*), James abt 1821, George 1823? John 1825? Joseph (abt 1827 '41 Cens) Abigail (abt 1830 '41 Cens) Lila(Lala?) (abt 1832 '41 Cens) Thomas (abt 1834 '41 Cens) George (abt 1835 '41 Cens) Mary (abt 1837 '41 Cens) Samuel (abt 1838 '41 Cens) Ann (abt 1840 '41 Cens) Kinney / Henney (5 mos '41 Cens) Governess Martha Blinkshaw (age 20 '41 Cens), FS Maria Murry (age 22, '41 Cens), FS Jane/Jake Parkes age 13, '41 Cens). Any connections? Thank you all Bob Oceanside, Calif.

Would SKS sho has access to the 1841 census, be kind enough to do a look up for me - SIMPSON According to the 1851 census my family is in the district of Dudley, town of Holly Hall. Mary SIMPSON Head Widow b. Delph, c. 1809 Thomas Son Patt. Maker b. Delph, c. 1832 Nancy Dau. b.Tipton, c. 1836 The above are my great-grandfather's family and I would like to know the name of the husband so that I can trace the family further (SIMPSON is quite a common name and to send for all the birth certificates for my great-grandfather would be an expensive excercise and I still would not know which was the right one). Sincere thanks in appreciation to anyone who is able to give me this information. Kind regards, Kerry from Queensland, Australia
My roll call is in part : GILL I have Mirah Gill who married Benjamin Thompson at The Parish Church Oldswinford 21.10.1863. Her father was Henry Gill - Engineer. Witness Sarah Jane Cornforth. I am looking for Mirah's line. I am also looking for Thompson, but will circulate the info that I have later. Family legend says Henry was a brass Founderer later on. No data. NORWOOD. I have Phoebe Norwood who was married Joseph Hickman (House painter) Wordesley 16.7.1871 d 23.8.1929. Phoebe could not write and left her mark on the Birth Certificate of Florence Augusta, one of her daughters. Florence was born in Brockmoor on 19.11.1874 . I have Phoebe's father Joseph Merrian Norwood b circa 1823 d 25.4.1886 who married Maria WOOD daughter of John WOOD b 1783 buried Brierly Hill Churchyard d 2.12.1856 My notes suggest that William WOOD, Marias elder brother b 1821 made money and ran a transport business including canal barges. The poor don't leave too many footprints, but William might have done. He lived at Brockmoor Cottage, Brockmoor. I am looking for both the NORWOOD and the WOOD lines. I would be grateful if anyone has crossed or followed these lines. Much of these data come from the late Rosemary Tillbrook. I have a lot more, but cant do too much too soon Cheers Roger Thompson
Wendy, From the replies you received to your STRINGER query, did you hear of a STRINGER marying a John Henry Pix WESTON c 1895 around Harbourne. Could someone tell me where harbourne is? TIA Marlene Jackson Ontario, Canada

Hi, Looking in the List of Occupation it says: Cheese Factor / Cheeseman / Cheese Monger - dealer in cheeses. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Linda
Yes, I well remember a similar rhyme from my childhood days, although it went:- eeny meeny miny mo catch a n***er by his toe if he squeals let him go eeny meeny miny mo (better not type that naughty word in full!) I remember this one too:- if yower bob dont give ower bob the bob yower bob owes ower bob ower bob's gonna give yower bob a bob on the nose I also remember something about:- ........... is no good chop him up for firewood ........................... but can't remember the rest of the saying - certainly nothing to do with Stafford Jail. I was brought up in Birmingham, but my Grandad's family came from Cradley. And as for the Fanny issue - my great-aunt was registered in the name of Fanny, but was known as Auntie Fan. On her marriage and death certificates, she is shown as Frances. So, take your pick.
