Rita There is nothing to see only a lawned area in front of a block of flats. The Church is 150yds towards the town, there's a Chapel in the street behind it that's been there since 1871,there is nothing left of the past in Oxford St. Ray
Martin the map is great and I found the Boat Builders Arms. Armed with this I should be able to take a look at the remains opposite the church you mentioned, Nigel. Hopefully I should get some feedback from _http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/_ (http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/) Thanks for refreshing my memory about this site, Pat. Rita

Hi All there seems to be quite an interest in various pubs around Bilston at the moment. Those with an interest in Historical pubs might care to have a look here http://www.bilston.org/history3.html you will find an historic map showing the location of many pubs. The Bilston web site also has some other items of a historical nature on it, I would welcome any contributions to extend this somewhat limited history section. Martin Peake BCA Webmaster
Hello, My great grandfather, William Ramswell was born about 1813 in West Bromwich. He left the area before marriage to Mary Budd in London. He was a Boilermaker and died in London in 1908. I have no idea who his parents were or if there were any sibling. Is there SKS who can point me in the right direction? Best wishes. Don Groves in West Wales.
I thought that Gamekeepers were just that. Keepers of game. I thought that they reared the gamebirds that were used at The Shoot for the Gentry to aim at. Hi Gaye & Rat, Thanks for replying to my request about the Boat Builders Arms Pub. Shame its gone. And Phil it would have spiced it up a bit if my gamekeeper ancestor had been a poacher. I would have liked that, but in this case it doesn't fit as the family were too wealthy in their own right. Or they were darn good poachers! Rita
I have lived in Leicestershire some 40 years and do not recognise Spoch. Coldville of course is probably Coalville. Looking in my street atlas of Leics the nearest villages and places to Coalville which have separate names are Hugglescote Donington le Heath Snibston Ellistown Greenhill Agar Nook Bardon Ravenstone Whitick Heather Ibstock New Swannington Thornborough further afield Thringstone Swannington Common Peggs Green Coleorton Moor Coleorton Church Town Farm Town Swepstone Normanton le Heath I can't see anything that looks like Spoch - best guess would be a poorly understood Ibstock Ros ----- Original Message ----- From: <Djedge007@aol.com> To: <ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 23, 2006 4:44 PM Subject: [B.C.] EDGE from SPOCH (?) > I have a barely legible letter stating that my EDGE family came from a > small, place named SPOCH, near COLDVILLE in Leicestershire..
