    3. Hi Bill On the 1871 census Phoebe Longmore was a widow living in Sun Lane, Brockmoor. Her daughter, Maria Bytheway was still at home. As were Eliza Longmore, 16, WilliamLongmore, 14, and Edwin Longmore, 7. The older daughter, Mary had married Matthew Noakes. They had two young children and were living in Sun Street, Brockmoor, just a couple of census pages after Phoebe. The were in the household of 74yo William Guest (who was the sexton at Brockmoor Church). 3. Hi Bill, I'm pretty sure the address on the 1851 census says "St by Sun." St being abbreviation for street and Sun being the pub. This later became Sun Street, Brockmoor. I believe it is now the top 100 yards section of Norwood Road that approaches Brockmoor High Street and the pub there is The Old Star. Perhaps someone who lives in the area would know what it is. The next part of the question is to do with the Guest family. The daughter Phoebe was a widow and she married my gggrandfather William Longmore in 1854. When they married Phoebe had two daughters Mary and Meriah. 3. I must agree that the primary option for the use of email and the internet is to ensure you have an up to date Virus Protection program, one which automatically updates daily. I have a bought one and AVG Free which protect my PC, but as virus are always being found the daily upload is imperative. In addition the firewall, in my case I have a Router/Modem which does that function for me, and gives me clear wireless connection. It means I can use a laptop in any part of the house, it even reaches next door and we are detached. I don’t know what method was being used when someone had problems, wireless LAN connection can be good. I use a preview option in Outlook, and have not had virus problems, in fact I find the Ad-Ware links more troublesome than viruses. Again there are many free program around which remove and block these very successfully. If anyone wants any more info then mail me off list. I think it is better to protect yourself and thus allow you to have the benefit of the options in the programs than limiting yourself. 3. Steph What version of Outlook are you using ? I have used Outlook successfully since the version that was part of Office 2000 - I am now on Outlook that was included with 2003 . Which is a little different from the earlier versions. You can configure each folder to behave exactly as you want 'using create rule ' which will filter your mail to different folders if you want - The order you want the mail can be configured by date - subject - sender also other formats that are listed. Has the advantage of a folder auto created named " received Mail " where any new downloads are listed. Hope this helps , but if you have more queries please do not hesitate to write to me off -list. NB For all !! Never use preview in a mail program - as that can in some instances trigger virus attachments. 2. Martin Peake
    3. With regard to malicious scripts buried in email, the most important thing is not wether or not you turn previews on or wether or not you allow HTML. The most cruial and vitally important thing is a good Anti Virus program with integrated email scanning! You should check for updated virus definitions at least daily. If your AV program is any good it will include an automatic updater, it doesn't hurt to check for updates manually as well! You should ensure you have a good Firewall installed as well, you can't be too carefull these days. Martin

    3. Steph If you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197746/en-us it discusses the problem and how to avoid it. I used Outlook 2000 for some time and preferred it to OE but have more recently moved on to Outlook 2003 which if you have the opportunity to use I would recommend. It has a better display than 200, showing the whole message in a message pane plus has a very effective built in spam checker. Re wireless I have used this for the last two years and found very little problems with it. XP SP2 significantly improved the interface for controlling it. I currently use both wireless and wires. Wires are faster if you want to move data between PCs on the network and don't have the potential security issues that wireless can but if you have a laptop I would definitely recommend trying wireless. If you do decide to go that way let me know if you would like me to send you links to sites I've found useful Regards Peter Wharton -----Original Message----- From: Steph Robinson [mailto:stephrobinson@blueyonder.co.uk] Sent: 25 March 2006 19:50 To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [B.C.] Non Gen - Microsoft Outlook Hi All Just set up my new computer, & decided to use Outlook instead of Outlook Express. 3. Hello Pat, You are of course quite correct, on many estates a gamekeeper reared pheasant and partridge for the shooting season, it varied very much from estate to estate. Some estates in Hampshire prided themselves on their fishing. Others on Shooting. In the other parts and particularly here in Scotland it would be fishing for Salmon and of course Deer Stalking. Probably the most dangerous part of the job was going with a nervous guest. Ted

    3. There used to be a Methodist church in King Street until it was demolished about 20 years ago. It used to be next to the junction of King Street and Union Street. It was on the side opposite Union Street about 20 yards up from Town Mills on the same side. All that is left now is some of the boundary wall and the railings. 3. Hi all, I am trying to locate the date of birth of the above named Sarah PLANT (nee JEWKES). Does anyone have a copy of the 1841 UK Census? Perhaps I could hazard a guess at the date if I could locate her in the 1841 Census? She would be married to James PLANT and have children named Daniel, Nancy, possibly James or Joseph. I would also appreciate the address of the family, I believe that they would be living in Woodside, Dudley. James was a "Moulder" in the 1851 UK Census where he has remarried to yet another Sarah. Sarah JEWKES PLANT died in 1843 in childbirth. I am also trying to locate the names of her parents, if anyone out there is also researching her JEWKES family? Many thanks in advance, Marion

    3. Hi Martin Thanks for replying. I receive mail from Black Country List in digest mode, & in Outlook Express, when I opened the mail there was a list of attached messages just below the subject line. In Outlook (2000), there are a row of envelopes at the very bottom of the screen (easily overlooked if from an individual rather than a mailing list) - it even seems to be giving me envelopes with attachments from individuals saying "Checked by AVG - no virus". In Express it just printed it at the bottom of the E mail. 3. Hi Steph I'm not quite sure what you mean, Outlook Express allows you to have the list of messages at the top and message previews (if enabled) below the message list or to the side. A quick check with Outlook (2003) shows virtually the same layout. Right clicking on the message header gives you the option to view attachments, selecting the mesage then clicking on File gives you a range of options including saving the attachments. This is exactly the same as Outlook Express.
