Marion, Patience is not in the GRO index in London. Perhaps someone could go to the records office in Dudley or one near by and see if they have records which are not in the GRO index. Remember GRO is only an index so may be something miss. check this site you may find something _http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php_ (http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php) if not BMSGH (Birmingham Midland family history Society ) may be able to help. FYI my family from Rowley Regis in 1850's were Baptised at Dudley 'Top Church' so just because your family were from Rowley does not mean their church was there. Sorry just a thought if you cannot find Patience in 1861 census have you found a death? All that I know about her is that she was born in "Dudley" abt. 1841 - (1841 & 1851 UK Census), to Thos. & Sarah PARKS/ES. At the time the family was living in "Freebodies" nr. the Dixon's Green/Kates Hill area of Dudley. I do not recall any place there named that back when I used to live there, where is it? Sometimes iDixon's Green is reckoned to be in RowleyRegis, also. Does anyone know which Parish it would fall into? St. John's was my family's church, do you feel that is where she may have been baptised? Any help would be appreciated. I cannot locate her in the FreeBMD or on ancestry.com, other than in the UK Census'. Many thanks, Marion

I would be really grateful if SKS is visiting the Archives who would be willing to look up a marriage for me. John PUGH and Martha PEAKMAN were married at St. Mary's, Handsworth 23rd June, 1834 according to the IGI. I would like to know the names of any witnesses and whether the marriage was by banns or by license. Many thanks, Maureen

Hi folks Firstly please forgive the slight ramblings :) For years I have been trying to find my Maternal Grandfather's elder sister. Her name was Eleanor Maud YATES ("Nellie") she was born in late 1883 in Wolverhampton, daughter of Joseph & Merab (nee FOSTER.) In Dec 1904 (aged 21) she was a witness at her elder brother's wedding in Wolverhampton. After this she seemed to have disappeared. According to my Mother she was never spoken of in the family for some reason. Now, I loosened a few bricks in the wall and found her wedding! It was held at St Lawrence's Church, Darlaston on the 26 Mar 1905. She married a Thomas BATES, Bachelor, a House Painter (age 25) son of James BATES of Willenhall Street, Darlaston. Eleanor's details were - Spinster (aged 21) dau of Joseph YATES (deceased in 1891) The address she gives is 8 Cramp Hill, Darlaston. The witnesses are Hurbert RICHRDS and Mary Jane MILLINGTON. Is there anyone out there researching the BATES surname that can help with what happened to Tomas and Eleanor after 1905? Any help would be very gratefully received All the best from Down Under Ian -- Ian Beach Bunbury, Western Australia ian@sedgleymanor.com Website "The Ancient Manor of Sedgley" in Staffordshire at http://www.sedgleymanor.com Listowner ENG-STS-SEDGLEY at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/ENG/ENG-STS-SEDGLEY.html Researching: Sedgley, Staffordshire : ADDIS(S), BEACH, CASWELL, GUTT(E)RIDGE, HOPKINS, FLAVELL, MILLARD & TURLEY Darlaston, Staffordshire : FOSTER, ORME & YATES Shropshire : ADDIS(S), BEACH, CASWELL

Gaye: I've been away for a few days and only just seen your query. I haven't seen any reply on-list. I'm not aware of a Buck Row in Oldbury, and don't think there ever was one. But there was a Bath Row in Rounds Green, forming a back lane to Dingle Street. Some of my ancestors lived there. Could your "Buck" be a misreading for "Bath"? Hello All, There's a book by Mark H. Washington Fletcher "Netherton : Edward 1 - Edward VIII" published by the County Borough of Dudley Libraries Museums & Arts Department Transcript No. 15 which is a really good read for anyone interested in Netherton. Mel, The late lamented Netherton Hall at Sweet Turf which you mention was originally part of Lord Dudley's estate and Dud Dudley his illegitimate son who Nigel mentioned lived there I think for a while in the 17th Century. Abraham Darby born at Woodsetton who Nigel also mentioned was I believe the ggnephew of Dud and carried on his pioneering work in iron smelting. As a child Abraham probably knew the old man. Nigel, Many thanks for the info on Noah Hingley, another great in the iron industry Regards, Neville

My Neal ancestors from Northant's and oxford were regular travelers on the canals. One of them married a canal barge builder in Banbury in 1812. Nearly every instance of the family describes them as boatman, boatwoman and only twice is there a mention of waterman. One of the Blackcountry canal boatmen went to work on the Thames and he was then described as a lighterman gaye
