STAFFORDSHIRE 1841 CENSUS COUNTY SET THIS IS A HUGE 23 CD SET Not only does the county have a large population, but the reason for so many CDs in the set is that we have scanned it in grey scale to a very high quality indeed to overcome the problems typically associated with the faded 1841 census pages. We can't promise that every single page will be legible (invisible ink is impossible to scan) but we can promise that the pages will be more readable than on the original films that you may have seen in the past! We make no apologies for the price of our 1841 census CDs. We work UP to a quality rather than down to a price, and we have gained the reputation of being the best at scanning these old 1841 census documents. In addition to the full county set above, we have made parts of the Staffordshire 1841 census available on individual CDs, each containing a range of census pieces. If you do not need the whole county, then this is the opportunity for you to buy smaller parts at a more affordable price (Just 7.50) for the districts in which you have interest. Details of the contents of ewach of the single CDs can be seen at http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/stf-census.html STAFFORDSHIRE 1861 CENSUS REGISTRATION DISTRICTS RG 9/1905-2062 A huge census from over a mile of microfilm! A tremendous resource! 30% DISCOUNT ON ALL CDs ORDERED ONLINE BY TUESDAY MORNING 9.00am http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/ The Archive CD Books Project exists to make reproductions of old books, documents and maps available on CD to genealogists and historians, and to co-operate with libraries, museums and record offices in providing money to renovate old books in their collection, and to donate books to their collections, where they will be preserved for future generations. -- Rod Neep Archive CD Books : http://www.archivecdbooks.org British-Genealogy: http://www.british-genealogy.com

    1. BRETTELL, John - Trade directories for Stourbridge around 1780 or earlier?
    2. MaryB
    3. Hi All, I am in Brisbane, Aus and have a will of a John Brettell, bricklayer, of Stourbridge who had an eldest son and heir William, a son Samuel and a son John. The son Samuel had two daughters Ann & Elizabeth (all this from the will). I am conducting a one name study on BRETTELL and variants and cannot figure out who this John Brettell, a bricklayer in 1779 was. My own line comes from Halesowen and Romsley areas up until the 1770s then Birmingham and later London (from early 1800s). I wonder if anyone has any idea how I could find out who this John Brettell in Stourbridge in 1779 (the will was proved 1782) was. Thanks heaps. MaryB

    3. Dave per our discussion below on the Irish to Brazil the Lost 300 did you post anything else I'm very interested in this and is their a list of names of these people. I know nothing about the ill fated trip to Brazil all I have is a line in the Bible that says "Arrived in Philadelphia 20 Feb 1870 from Brazil" I've checked ship records for1869-70-71 but can not fine the record. Would be very interested in the records of this Brazilian trip. One other line in the Bible is the birth record of "Patrick Atlantic Ocean Murphy born 10 April 1868 on board the ship and died. Hi Mason, Didn't know that too many people knew of what happened with the ill fated trip to Brazil (The lost 300 we call it). Which list was your post on? Would love to have a gander to see if it ties in with what we have here. Dave 8-)) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. G'day Jen No BC association in Australia that I know of but you can join the BC Society as an overseas member. See http://www.blackcountrysociety.co.uk/ The cost is 25 UK Pounds (about $63 Australian) and you get an excellent quarterly magazine. Great idea but if we start a club over here the travelling to meetings might be a bit of problem, where do we meet? In Alice Spring? :) All the best from the bottom left hand corner of OZ. 2. Chris
    3. Carl, I can't help you with your query on the pub, but I am interested in the Netherton area. I have a MANTLE ancestor who was born in Netherton in 1838, and her father's occupation is shown as "Minor". Would he have been a coal miner? Were there coal mines in this area? If not, what other mines were there? Regards, Chris Adelaide -----Original Message----- From: Carl Higgs [mailto:cjhiggs@11vale.freeserve.co.uk] Sent: Tuesday, 23 May 2006 7:59 AM To: ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: 'Rose & Crown', Darby End, Netherton Hi, can anyone out there offer me any information about the old Rose and Crown public house, which stood on the corner of Double Row/Withymoor Road, at Darby End, Netherton. My ancestor Job Bird was recorded as a publican on the 1841 census, living along Northfield Road, Darby End. He died later the same year aged 56, and his widow Ann Bird (nee Gould) was next recorded living on the corner of Double Row, as a 'victualler' in 1851. This was the 'Rose and Crown' or its predecessor, as listed on the 1861 census. Ann Bird continued to run this pub until her death at the age of 85 in 1868. Thereafter, Job and Ann's unmarried daughter, Esther Bird, took over the Rose and Crown, until her own death in 1874. The pub then transferred into the hands of Esther's sister-in-law, Louisa Bird (widow of Esther's brother Benjamin) who was still there in 1891. By 1901, however, Louisa had moved in with her married daughter's family in nearby Gill Street. She died in 1910 and was buried along with the rest of the Bird family in St. Andrew's churchyard. This appears to have marked the end of the Bird family's associations with the Rose and Crown. The actual building is still standing but has been unsympathetically converted into flats. Any information concerning when the pub was built, whether the name changed, names of later licensees, and when it was delicensed, etc., gratefully received - also does anyone have a photo of it when it was still a pub? Yours hopefully Carl Higgs ______________________________
