Hi, I am trying to find a relation John James born 1836 Pembrokeshire,he was a ship's carpenter, or canal boat builder. He was married to Sarah In the 1901 census he and Sarah are at Tipton Staffordshire and they seem to have been around Tipton for some time. I have been looking for his death in the Free BDM but wonder no Tipton How would that show up in the Indexes. Someone said that Tipton was in the Dudley area of Staffordshire. So in the deaths would that come up as died Dudley Stafforshire? I can't find him on the 1911 in Tipton anyway Another problem is his dau Margaret Bishop nee James born Walsall 1870. I can't find her on the 1911 census either. In the 1901 census she was living with her son James 6 at Dudley Worcester. James in 1911 is an Birkdale Reform School Liverpool but no sign of Margaret. I have also been looking for a remarriage for her and failing that a death. So would that show up in the indexes as Dudley Worcester? Many thanks for any help and advice Cheers Marilyn from Western Australia
Dudley itself was in Worcestershire until 1963, but I don't suppose that is of much help Dave Carr >----Original Message---- >From: [email protected] >Date: 22/04/2009 2:26 >To: <[email protected]> >Subj: [Black Country] re Tipton and Dudley which county? > >Hi, > I am trying to find a relation John James born 1836 Pembrokeshire, he was >a ship's carpenter, or canal boat builder. Hi folks, Are any of the Black Country towns and villages added to the Staffs or Worcs BMD or are they classed as West Mids. It is just that I never see any of the West Mids parish names being listed anywhere. Hi All Just found this great site and they are adding stuff all the time www.blackcountrychurchyards.co.uk Cheers Cassy Assistant Admin Black Country Potteries, and Wolverhampton Lists
Does anyone happen to have access to a copy of the Willenhall St Giles baptism register for 1816 please? I'm looking for an Ann Hodson who must have been born round about that time. Unfortunately she died before the 1851 census so I don't know for certain that she was born in Willenhall, just that she lived there as an adult. According to the online transcript of the register on 5 June 1816 Joseph & Ann Hodson buried a child called Ann and baptised one whose name is blank in the transcript. The IGI has the same couple baptising a daughter called Hariette on 3 Jun 1816. I'd really like to know which one is correct and whether there's any chance that the blank entry is my missing Ann. Unfortunately Ann went on to marry just a few months before Civil Reg came in so there's no help from a marriage certifcate either. Thanks for any suggestions. Tracy
Graham If you go to FreeBMD and find the appropriate reference in the index, there's a facility to leave a 'postem' which you get to by clicking on the 'info' icon next to the name. You can post all the details there which you've gleaned from the certificate to help the next person who might come looking for that couple. Hi Graham Well it would seem that the first place to offer them would be on these lists, but there are specific websites for the purpose, such as BMD Exchange. Dear List In my search I have acquired a number of certificates which have turned out to relate to people who, although they share the Stanley surname and originate from Walsall, are not members of my branch of the family. Is there some sort of national or local clearing house for BMD certificates where these can be offered, or should I just chuck them away? Best wishes Graham
Would a fellow researcher be able to advise me as to what data would be shown on a marriage certificate for that of a lady who had been married previously. I believe that her first husband died before the second marriage. Unfortunately, she was shown as head of the household on the 1851 census, married in 1853 but her second husband had apparently died before the 1861 census and I am unable to find any further information about him. I am hoping that the marriage certificate may give me further details. Kind regards, Kerry from Queensland, Australia

Hi The marriage cert wont tell you her first husbands name only that she was a widow and her maiden name , , If you have got her first husbands name look at the 1841 census for him if not , look on the FBMD for the surname of her first husband that she was using on the 1851 census and her christen name and see if you can find a match , other than that if she had any children by her first marriage get one of there birth cert or perhaps a christening if you can find one and it gives you the fathers name Cheers Cassy Assistant Admin Black Country Potteries, and Wolverhampton Lists ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mrs. Kerry Anne Barter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 06, 2009 9:50 AM Subject: [Black Country] Ref: Marriage certificate information > Would a fellow researcher be able to advise me as to what data would be > shown on a marriage certificate for that of a lady who had been married > previously. > I believe that her first husband died before the second marriage. > Unfortunately, she was shown as head of the household on the 1851 census, > married in 1853 but her second husband had apparently died before the 1861 > census and I am unable to find any further information about him. > I am hoping that the marriage certificate may give me further details. > Kind regards, > Kerry from Queensland, Australia > ------------------------------------- > The only List that specifically covers the whole of the Black Country. Hi Listers For those of you that don't live in the Blackcountry; the "Blackcountry Bugle" newspaper is an excellent source of local history for researchers. Up until recently it was only available in the local BC area but it now appears to be available online (and even better it's free) Go to http://www.blackcountrybugle.co.uk and look for the link at top right of page. My g g grandmother died of small pox in 1875 in Smethwick, and a few days later, so did the baby that she had just given birth to. Would smallpox victims in Smethwick also have been buried in Netherton, or would it be in another mass grave, does anybody know please? thanks Val
Hi Jenni In this sense it probably means that the business of "J Hanson Chimney Sweep" was late the business of "Kirkham Chimney Sweep" and he has taken it over (bought it) along with the goodwill and regular customers, and just wants everybody to know that fact. We have an instance here in Ledbury today where one of the estate agents calls the business "X's Estate Agents Late Y's" where X is his surname and Y is that of the previous owner.
