Hi Listers, Google is amassing a vast collection of books- free for the reading - on their Google Books site. In my next life I hope to have time to seriously check it out. Meanwhile, researching the Horseley Colliery in Tipton I stumbled onto one little gem. The title of the book is -- (Hang onto your bifocals.)-- "Memoirs of the Geological Society of Great Britain and the Museum of Practical Geology -- the South Staffordshire Coal Field" by J. Beete Jukes, M.A. Camb., F.R.S., &C., Second Edition 1859. You can guess with a title like that there are many pages that are vastly tedious. Skip them. Go to the last chapters the Notes on how they did it all starting on page 219 on page 223, "Notes on coal raised and iron made in 1858." He tells you all about the operations with a great list of all the works and owners and furnaces in the area at the time. Great stuff if you have any family working in coal or iron. There is a good index at the end with links to the pages if you have a specific area of interest. The official link is: http://books.google.com/books?id=0gq8AAAAIAAJ&lpg=PA163&ots=OJJAXVN8vn&dq=Ho rsley%20Colliery&pg=PP1#v=onepage&q=&f=false You will need to click or copy all of it or skip it and just Google search "Horseley Colliery" Mae Canaga In California USA

Secondly, sometimes if people were poor and couldn't afford a grave then a grave was reused, and it may be that this was the case. Do you have your Moses's death cert? It's possible that he lived alone and had no traceable relatives, and so was buried in a plot which hadn't been used for some time. No need for a connection. I would like to thank the following, Chris, Carl, Nigel, Paul, plus anyone I may have forgotten. You all pointed me in the direction of the _www.cmhrc.co.uk_ (http://www.cmhrc.co.uk) site. This site enabled me to finally get the death certificate of Joseph Allsop. (Transcribed on the site as J.Allson). The cmhrc site gave me enough information I needed to apply for a certificate from the GRO, Southport. Kindest regards to you all, Maureen
Hope this gets thru' this time. Mo
