    3. Hi All, Just a quick question, I hope: How do you search the 1881 census for a specific house, either online or on the LDS discs? Best wishes, Rosemary

    3. Hi Rosemary Version 4 of the viewer for the various LDS cds has "Neighbors-Advanced Query" found under the search menu (Earlier versions do not have it) This enables you to search for pretty much anything but remember that it will only find what is there , i.e. a lot of villages are enumerated as "Village" or similar, so the search will not find any separate addresses. It is very useful for finding those "lost" families in the 1881 in that you can search for a group of first names and say a known birth place and it will return all that have that combination. (you need to search each area CD in turn, so a likely place they might be is useful) If you do not have version 4 you can buy it from the usual LDS address for 5.95gbp (seem to remember it comes with the Mormon Immigration CD as well same price) If you have just the odd one to check let me know and I will gladly try for you. Best wishes Nivard Ovington Cornwall (UK) > Hi All, > > Just a quick question, I hope: > > How do you search the 1881 census for a specific house, either online or on > the LDS discs? > > Best wishes, > > Rosemary >

    1. [BAN] Searching the 1901 census

    3. Hi Folks, How funny that there should be questions about searching the census today. I have been having problems searching the 1901 census online. I found my Gibbs family (my Dad's side) in Tadmarton, Oxfordshire with no problem, but so far have been unable to find my Mother or her family in Coventry I am looking for Richard Bannister Allcoat aged about 34 at that time and Louisa Allcoat his wife aged around 41. They married in 1889 so should be there. My Mother Winifred Louise Allcoat would have been 1 yr. old at that time but she also had two older brothers as well. I have tried all the combinations of names I can think of and shortened ones as well using the wildcard feature. I also tried looking for the address, which I think was 15, Duke Street, Coventry. I can't find any of the odd numbered houses in that street using the address search. Does anyone have any ideas? Could they have not recorded all the addresses? Or is it possible that there are a lot of omissions? What would happen if people just didn't co-operate? Any help would be appreciated. Dorothy -- Dorothy Gibbs (in Hertfordshire UK)
