Thankyou so much for this absolutely fascinating story. The parents of Edwin and Arthur Stanley were Henry Stanley (1851-?) and Fanny nee Blake (1850-1940). I am descended from Fanny 's brother Edwin Caleb Blake (1853-1936) who was a carpenter by trade and a trustee of Deddington Methodist Church. Here are Henry and Fanny on the 1881 census where they are living in Helmdon. By 1901 they had moved to Woodstock Oxfordshire, where Henry is working as a grocer. The only child still at home by then is the youngest son Albert aged 10. In addition to Albert, whose full name was Joseph Albert, and William there was another brother George (1882-?). I know little about the Stanleys. A family story, which I have been unable to verify, says that sometime after 1901 Henry abandoned Fanny and went to Canada, where he is presumed to have died.
