I have now spoken to my sister and she says that the FREEMAN'S were my Grandmother's next door neighbours in Tadmarton. We only knew the lady as Mrs Freeman ( usual in those days) .... so her husband was actually the Freeman of course. She had a daughter Marjorie who was best friend to my Auntie Ethel (Ethel GIBBS). Mrs Freeman was known as the village nurse... i.e. she was the one called to look after ladies in labour, lay out people in death etc. When my family evacuated ourselves to Tadmarton in 1940 after we were bombed out from Coventry, we took another family with us. This family lived in the Freeman's cottage for a couple of months. I don't recall if the Freemans were there or not at the time. In My aunt's birthday book there are several other Freeman's:- Marjorie Freeman Oct 16th May Freeman April 3rd Elizabeth C Freeman May 4th Emmeline Freeman Dec 5th Mrs Helen (or Hanna... can't quite make it out) Freeman Jun 17th Hilda Maud Freeman Dec 17th A note in the book also says:- Alfred Freeman Tadmarton. Alf passed on August 26th 1969 aged 69 yrs. Somewhere I have a photograph of the cottages where they lived, with my Grandmother and I think Auntie Ethel and Marjorie Freeman standing outside. When I find it I'll send a copy. (It took itself off and hid as soon as I started looking for it of course!!) It's a nice looking thatched Elizabethan cottage which had been divided into three at the time and I think has now been restored. Dorothy -- Dorothy Gibbs (in Hertfordshire UK)
