    3. Folks Your banter has all been mostly amusing, and partly over my head, but there have now been over 30 off-topic messages to this list about the server, the use of swear words, the state of the roads/weather etc. Can we return to what it's supposed to be for please! Thanks Neil

    3. Hi Neil, A fair enough comment I think. I'm always happy to help with either family or local history if possible, as are many other members. But for us to do that, folks need to send in their requests/brickwalls/ queries - nobody really has recently. The fact that server 2 has been down more often than up & running the last few weeks has also added to being quiet. Your interests are GRANTHAM/SKUCE & the canal around Banburyshire & towards Coventry aren't they Neil? Would you like to start us all off by making a request or sharing something about canal life -- (several members have canal families) I would enjoy getting back to trawling through my books/PR's again -- just need to be given something to chase first! REQUESTS PLEASE ANYONE Angela list admin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Grantham" <neil40@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-BANBURY-AREA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2004 1:03 AM Subject: [BAN] What is this list for? > Folks > > Your banter has all been mostly amusing, and partly over my head, but there > have now been over 30 off-topic messages to this list about the server, the > use of swear words, the state of the roads/weather etc. > > Can we return to what it's supposed to be for please! > > Thanks > Neil

    1. RE: [BAN] What is this list for? HATLEY of Shutford
    2. Christine Gibbins
    3. Dear List and Angela, My research in the area is the name HATLEY from Shutford, a Catholic family of papermakers. Lewis HATLEY, son of John and Ann ROSE b. abt 1781 In his will dated 1799 John HATLEY leaves his house in Shutford to Lewis and his blacksmith shop in Epwell to his son John Constantine. The shop was in tenure to James PRUE and Richard WALKER. Lewis must have left Shutford in the early 1800s. He is next found marrying Sarah Hooper in 1810 in South Stoneham Hampshire. He and his family then ran The Post Office there for many years, but Lewis always gave his trade as papermaker. John Constantine also went to Hampshire as his shown on deeds as having land in South Stoneham in 1815. John was also a papermaker. I would to hear more about this family and the local history of Shutford and papermaking in that area at the time. I also have the tree and my notes to pass on. Thank you. Best wishes, Chris. -----Original Message----- From: Spencer Allen [mailto:angela-ban@tiscali.co.uk] Sent: 11 August 2004 10:12 To: ENG-BANBURY-AREA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BAN] What is this list for? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
