Good morning all, I have just uploaded a new page onto the website, simply called 'Remembrances'. It is there for you to post any name, from anywhere, any war, about those you've lost during any conflict. I will edit out any comment I feel is political, and my decision will be final. There is room for you to add a little about the individual and a small photo if you have one and would like to. But it will have to be small! As usual there is no formal protocol, but I have already started with one entry and a few notes about my great-uncle who was killed in 1916 and a small photograph of him. This page is *not* confined just to those from the Banburyshire area. If you want to put up a larger memorial or photograph, for someone with connections with the Banburyshire area, you can have a page to yourself! Just write to me. If any of you would like to follow this, please do so, Good wishes to you all, Rosemary, Northumberland UK ............................................................ Rosemary Great idea - are you a mind reader ?? Was going to suggest to the list , that in the week from 4th to 11th November ( Remembrance Day ) that they may like to post a Memorial to family who died defending their country. We did this on STS List, 2 years ago- and all the tributes were collated and loaded to the Genuki STS Page. But think the permanent idea on the Web Page , preferable!! Hi All, Just a quick reminder that I have added a new page for Remembrances for this time of the year. I'm a little fuzzy about the specific names and dates difference countries have to commemorate their fallen in wars, so any one who can add or enlighten me, please do so! This is what I've gathered I know so far: Britain (New Zealand and --- ?) Remembrance Day is commemorated on the 11th November each year, to remember the armistice at the end of the First World War, and Remembrance Sunday is the closest Sunday to that date. Often at 11.00am a 2 minutes silence is kept. Australia and New Zealand: ANZAC Day 25th April in commemoration of the Gallipoli Landing (and a Remembrance Day?) USA: Veterans/ or Memorial Day - when? - need more details here (sorry!) South Africa ?? Canada ?? Other counties? As you can see, I'm rather short on on formation - so please enlghten me gently :-)) Please note that this page is not for any political comment - it is just to remember and honour those who were killed in war. I've added below some of my message from Tuesday, in case you've deleted it already! ----------------------------------------------------------------- | Good morning all, | | I have just uploaded a new page simply called 'Remembrances'. | | It is there for you to post any name, from anywhere, any war, | about those you've lost during any conflict. | There is room for you to add a little about the individual and a | small photo if you have one and would like to. Here in New Zealand, the state holiday commemorating veterans is Anzac Day. This nzhistory.net page gives a good summary & history of the holiday. http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/Gallery/Anzac/Anzacday.htm Regards, Brenda. -- Brenda Anderson ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ www.curiouskiwi.com
