I am not sure whether Croughton counts as being part of Banburyshire but there does not appear to be a list for "our" part of Northamptonshire. On their war memorial is a small carved name Morrison Wootton. I believe that it is Morrison Jack WOOTTON and I have established that he was a Captain, 5th Battalion, The Essex Regiment, who was killed on 4 November 1943 age 30. He was the son of Jack and Caroline Wootton and the husband of Gladys Wootton of Bournemouth. He is buried in Sangro River War Cemetery, Italy. The strange thing is that the only mention I can find of him is in the Canadian War tributes but they reiterate the CWGC information that I had. My questions are: what is his link to Croughton and to Canada? Can anyone help please? Michael Allbrook
Could anyone do a lookup in Northamptonshire for the death of Dorothy Middleton Born 1703 at Tysoe. She was unmarried and still alive in 1764. Her death has not been found in Warwickshire or Oxfordshire which is where some of the family moved to in the early 1700s. I would be very grateful if someone could give me a lead. Regards, Maureen, Milton Keynes.
Hi I cannot find a birth or marriage registered for Morrison so perhaps his parents emigrated to Canada. I know that in WW1 men came back to the UK to enlist in the army here and returned to their new country afterwards, so perhaps the same happened in WW2. There are Woottons in the 1901 census in Croughton so perhaps he was related to them and that is why he is on the memorial & in the Canadian war tributes. Michael have you tried asking the curator of the Essex Regiment Museum in Chelmsford? pompadour@chelmsford.gov.uk Given that Morrison was an officer they should have some detail about him. regards Jon Malings Wexford, Ireland
