I use an Excel spreadsheet, with columms for the item, the repository, and my notes. After I've looked at the item, it goes into a seperate page in the same spreadsheet, which is my research log of things I've already looked at, and which has an additional column for the results. Having a column for the repository is helpful, because if I'm going to a repository, I can sort on that column, and pull up everything for that location. My genealogy program (The Master Genealogist) also has a research log utility that connects the research tasks to the individual in the database, but I found a simple spreadsheet worked better for me. I have had sooooooooo many different types of "to-do"lists over the years. Every one of them seemed like the solution to my perennial problem of keeping track of what I wanted to do, or to find, or to check the original, in different libraries, sources, books, films etc etc etc But none of them has stood the test of time. The problem as I see it is: 1. I have loads of possible sources to look up 2. They are in a wide variety of places and 3. Answers sometimes turn up in places I unexpected So - how do you keep track of what you want to do? How do you make sure you keep those lists up-to-date? Kind regards, Rosemary Northumberland UK PS. Dawn - I have received your messages re your website - has my 2nd response got through to you?
