Brenda I had an unscientific look at the Deddington Burials 1840-45. Probably 50% don't give any cause of death, of the rest there are various vague descriptions of dropsy, convulsion, epilepsy, palsy, "a shattered consitution" "inflamation of lungs" (or should I say t'lungs...shades of James Herriott there) and decay of nature (i.e. old age.). 11 people died of measles in 1840 but I don't see any more deaths after that. 2 children died of Typhus fever and another 5 children of "fever" in 1843. 1 person died of scrofula and another of consumption in 1843. In 1844 Anne Slatter died of Scrofula of 5.5 years duration. 1845 was a bad year with 16 people dying of "fever" and two children of "scarlet fever" . There were also several people "'burnt to death" during the period. Very few other accidental deaths were recorded. Looked at two deaths for children in Middleton Cheney ...one in 1841 and the other in 1842, both children died young, same parents. Both appear to have died from tuberculosis, one death listed as scrofula... child died at 15 months, and the other consumption, ...child died at 19 weeks. Pity the poor parents loosing two little girls one after the other.> > Was there an epidemic of sorts at that time, and were a lot of children dying from tuberculosis...I mean more than the usual deaths? Does anyone else have children in the family history with the same diagnosis on the death certificate for the same time period. Just thought I would ask.> > Brenda> > avast!
