Hi Frances, A Scholar aged 4 is quite usual as it was common practice for many children to start school that age. Even in the early 20th century my mother and Aunt both started Colleycroft School, Bedworth, N. Warwickshire at the age of 4 (1906 and 1908). The Poor little mites, in those days, often got fingers smacked with a ruler for not sewing small and neat hemming stitches in their sewing lessons---at the tender age of 5!!!!! Regards, Muriel.
