Roy...thanks so much for this...wonderful! I have to dash to work but will be back to absorb it all and check everything later!! The only thing I've just looked at is my record of Thomas is that he married Ann Mucklow 10/11/1853 in Bidford on Avon, Warwickshire...does this still tie in? Their son was William George Stanton who married Emma Ann Walesby. I have him amongst our family which subsequently became Canal folk and moved to Birmingham and further North. As you say his parents were George (1811-1882), a boatman, and Mary Ann (Dicken.)George seem to be from Adderbury where his parents, George(also eventually a boatman) and Hannah were married in 1809. I have her maiden name as Hannah Pain Coleman though where that originates I'm not sure. For me the pain is that I cannot locate george's birth! although a lot of Stantons are around in Adderbury before that, so I guess there is just a gap here and since I understand that there was a Smallpox epidemic in Adderbury in 1764 it may not be surprising that a few records are missing. HI Jo I think that we are still on the right lines as first of all, most of our family showed a distinct lack of imagination, and used George as a child's name, sometimes twice in one generation, right up to my dad's time. Secondly my grandfather told me of boyhood memories of travelling by boat down to Evesham, with his grandfather in order to deliver a load of coal. They came back with a hold full of apples, but as they were so near Bidford by then, I am sure he could have dropped in on his uncle Thomas too. I have no other details of Thomas other than to say that the family left Banbury and became occasional Brummies around 1845, my line is through his brother, surprise, surprise... George! Best wishes Roy
Hi Roy & Jo I have the Warks 1851 census if this is any help to you both.
