talk of dripping toast reminded me of when i worked at Spencers about 1941 we had a mid morning break and there would be thick slices of new bread and dripping in the canteen the dripping being sent down from the flat by Mrs Allen . They must have been able to get bigger joints than the usual rations. I also remember lovely cheese straws she made when we had a party. Our work rooms were on the first floor aircraft parts were stored on the ground floor.. Poor old Spencers gone but not forgotton. Mam used to mix Oxo with any dripping that came our way to make it taste better. Rhoda
