My husband had a look at the photo. The insignia is Airborne Division (Pegasus emblem above "AIRBORNE" strip). See http://home.tiscali.nl/nijsten/insignia.html for starters... Pilots and paratroopers/parachutists would have wings. There are none, so my husband suggests gliders. The upper cloth shoulder strip identifies his regiment. Does the image end in "...RD" -- Stafford? Some web sites indicate the South Staffordshire Regiment had a "1st Airborne Division" (Brigade?) in about 1944. Not much solid help with history on Google, but gliders were used by the regiment. See http://www.assaultglidertrust.co.uk/south_staffs.html Contacts may be useful at http://x.staffordshireregimentmuseum.com No doubt you have received other suggestions by now. Best wishes for accumulating enough clues to apply for your man's service record! >Today's Topics: > > 1.
