Hi Brian *Some* non conformist registers are transcribed and available here http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/ Its not cheap though, you can do a basic search for free but an advanced search costs (which baffles me) Anyway for what its worth there are plenty of GREGORYs but whether they are yours or not is another matter Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi to everyone, > > On several occasions I have asked for some help with my "brick wall" in > trying to find the maiden name of one of my ancestors. > > I have made considerable progress including the fact that my ggg > grandparents were married in Marylebone, London and not Banbury and the > maiden name is Gregory. > > I am now certain that the two people I need to research are James GREGORY > and Elizabeth GREGORY.
Nivard, Thank you for your suggestion, which I have followed up, but unfortunately has not helped me with my problem. Back to the drawing board. Hi to everyone, Yes it's me again trying to track down the parents of Elizabeth & James GREGORY in Banbury. I am convinced that Elizabeth GREGORY (born 1794) and James GREGORY (born 1798) are siblings from Banbury. On James second marriage certificate in 1843 it gives his fathers name as William GREGORY (market gardener) Elizabeth's daughter Emma WILLOUGHBY was baptised in Banbury in 1824. At that time the parents (William & Elizabeth WILLOUGHBY) were living in Calthorpe Lane but Elizabeth was born in Neithrop. In the 1852 directory for Banbury there is an entry under "Gardeners & Seedsmen" for a William GREGORY of Calthorpe Lane. However, the 1851 census shows a William GREGORY (seedsman) married to an Ann GREGORY living at the Bank in Neithrop, but they were both born in 1811!! I cannot see the wood for the trees. Before I go completely bald can anyone please suggest what may be going on and point me in a suitable direction. Kind regards (on both knees), Brian
