    1. [BAN] Question about CD roms from OFHS
    2. Alf & Barbara Rosethorne
    3. Hi List, I'm thinking of buying one of the CD roms of parish registers from the Oxfordshire Family History Centre & wondered if anyone else had bought them. I couldn't find out what to expect with them on the website. Are they transcribed or the actual images of the pages? I've been through a few films from the LDS and couldn't find the parishes I need (Horley & Hornton). The parishes I'm interested in are Hornton, Horley, Alkerton & Shenington these look like they're on the Banbury No.3 CD . I'd love for anyone to give me some feedback on these CDs. Thank you Barbara Sunny West OZ (it should be raining!)

    3. Hi Barbara Most OFHS cds are a very useful resource to purchase - much credit due to the transcribers. To be able to research from the comfort of home also has many benefits. However there are problems with some parish records OFHS have put onto cd format. Some have information missing from the indexes, so as Shawnna suggests - don't rely on the indexing. Some are almost impossible to read at certain points - ie you may be able to pick up on 2 letters of a 7 letter surname. Not very helpful for those that don't know for certain who, what & when they are looking for in a parish. Wendy Archers opinion is that the scanning of fiche to cd lost resolution. But having identified a need to resolve this problem on OFHS cd's - appropriate action to rectify the situation would be discussed by OFHS. That was December 2006! I haven't heard anything further on those comments - Wendy, Hugh?
