Hubert The IGI is the International Genealogical Index giving the baptisms and marriages (not many deaths) taken from as many Parish Registers as the Mormons were able to obtain. There are now millions of names and dates across the world on their Index. They have a web-site www.familysearch.org where one can search. There are, as with all transcriptions some errors and there are parish registers that are not included. As with all information it needs to be checked as much as possible with other sources. My 3xgt grandfather has his two marriages indexed but none of his 13 children are listed. Devon is another county that is not represented very well. I have been told when I first started F.H. that it depended on when the registers were completed. Our main UK libraries hold most of the fiche for the IGI also at the Mormons' Family History Centres found in most large towns. I hope this is of help. I'm sure that others will either add or dispute some of this info but this is how I've found it over the years- helpful to find others that may be related but always requires checking. The IGI have had researchers delving into mediaeval families; one family of the same name as my ancestors goes back as far as the late 1200s. To date, I've not found a link with this branch; maybe one day I'll find something. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hubert Flowers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: 04 Jul 2007 23:03 Subject: Re: [BAN] EARLY FLOWERS FAMILY > thank you for the help may i ask what is IGI ?is that available in the > sates? > i do know that a William flowers was a witness to marriage. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2007 1:55 PM > Subject: Re: [BAN] EARLY FLOWERS FAMILY > > > > Hi Hubert > > > > Have you tried Northamptonshire? > > There are John Flowers baptised 1760 Middleton Cheney, and John Flowers > > baptised 1759 Croughton, both in the IGI, who would be the right age to > > marry in > > 1786, and Banbury is very near to both. > > > > Regards > > > > > > Kim Sargerson > > > > > > > > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > http://www.british-history.ac.uk/ > > British History Online > > ------------------------------- > > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without > > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > > > -- > > No virus found in this incoming message. > > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > > Version: 7.5.476 / Virus Database: 269.9.14/885 - Release Date: 7/3/2007 > > 10:02 AM > > > > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > http://www.british-history.ac.uk/ > British History Online > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
It's worth pointing out for those not familiar with IGI that there are at least two sorts of entries a) Those taken directly from parish registers. Very incomplete, with some transcription errors but I find them very useful indeed. A great tool for searching these by parish is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle b) The entries put in by members of the Latter Day Saints Church. I beleive these are based on Church members genealogical research. Again they can be very useful but also tantalisingly inaccurate with no information to back up where the data actually came from. I tend to treat with caution and use mainly as a pointer to where to look for the real thing.
