    3. Forgive me if this request is off topic. I have a photograph of three ladies dressed in Victorian clothing, and their identification depends on the date the photograph was taken. My somewhat tenuous excuse is that the picture was taken in Cropredy and that they are members of the Berry family. I do not have a website, and know photographic attachments to the group are a big no-no. Among our illustrious band are there any experts in butterfly wings, lace collars and cameo broaches who would be prepared to assist me in dating what looks like three generations of a Cropredy family? 3. Dear Joe: I seem to remember that a 'Google' will find you photographic websites with sound advice. 3. Hi Joe Roger Vaughan's site is very helpful as a guide to dress/pose/studio props/trinkets etc http://www.cartes.freeuk.com/time/date.htm should take you to the page for Victorian/Edwardian Ladies 1860 - 1920. Does the photo still have its 'back card'? as you can roughly date a photograph from the design used on that. Backcards also changed with fashion/decades - & were used much like a business calling card is today. Square or rounded corners can also help date a photo If it does have a designed back card still with it, there may be small writing (usually at the bottom) on that. That would give the company name that printed the card & then supplied photographers with their cardstock. Cardstock printers in business are another way to add detail to photographic dates. Also google 'Marion date code' for further info Regards Angela G grandniece of an 1865 established photographic artist/carver & gilder/picture frame manufacturer/pyrotechnic display provider & organizer. So some interest in the subject ;>) > I have a photograph of three ladies dressed in Victorian clothing, and > their identification depends on the date the photograph was taken. 3. Thanks very much, Angela for this very useful site, which I hadn't seen before. I've dated one of mine from it, (abt 1865), which I'd been stuck on for ages :-) http://www.cartes.freeuk.com/time/date.htm I have another photo though, which still has me stumped. If anyone would be willing to have a look at a jpeg of it I'd be very grateful. Barb
