    1. Christmas Day
    2. Port and lemon and Ginger Wine. The only drinks us kids was allowed! A tanner in the pud was enough for a bag of sweets to last for the first week back at school. Visiting my grandparents at the farm, which was a 2½ mile walk. All my cousins there too. Their parents had cars, but my Dad was not allowed to drive because of epilepsy, and Mum didn't take her test until she was 45. An ostrich for lunch (well, a 25-30lb Turkey anyway!!) on the big day of course with fresh veg from the garden and Grans special stuffing that tasted so wonderful, but gave everyone the most awful wind!! Served cold for Tea with pickles and salad with crusty bread spread thick with butter. Trifle for the sweet-toothed amongst us. Then we would play cards or a new game we had in our stocking. That was then. I hope to recreate some of that this year with 19 of my family for Xmas lunch. I don't grow veg, but the rest will be there. The tanner will be 20p and the ostrich will be a 15lb turkey crown. I suspect with my stuffing, the wind will blow as then too!!! Ian
