Hi Rosalind My question was based on the possibility that a man I had found in the WW1 medal cards who was a Percy J ROBERTS may be your man, having found your man with parents in 1901 it looked like he had the middle initial as J, there were only two Percy ROBERTS in the medal cards who served in the Ox & Bucks, one being a Percy J, the other Percy C (that is of course based on your mums anecdote being correct) Having found him in 1891 with parents I would say his middle initial is actually T, I wonder if thats for TYE like his brother Benjamin ? There is one Percy ROBERTS born Banbury in the 1911 census but without buying the transcript or page its hard to know what his marital status was, do you have that? There are many Percy ROBERTS listed in the medal cards which give little detail so hard to work out which might be yours I do not see an obvious Percy ROBERTS in the service records so far available on Ancestry Ancestry are making available the surviving service records but are only up to the letter N so far , so its possible his still exist and may yet be found, he does not seem to appear in the so called pension records Service records give more detail and may identify him, although sadly only approximately one third survived WW2 (ironically) The added problem is that he may not have used his middle initial so identifying a marriage may also be a problem On that point have you seen his baptism or just a transcript, the original of which may give his middle name ? Nivard , Thanks for your thoughts : I only have the 1911 for his parents , and he is not with them at that time - I'll get the one that you've found , I think , as my next step . From other listers , it seems that he was born Thomas Percy . Kind regards , Rosalind . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nivard Ovington" <ovington1@sky.com> To: <eng-banbury-area@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 16, 2009 10:41 AM Subject: Re: [BAN] Bucks Regimnt records > Hi Rosalind > > My question was based on the possibility that a man I had found in the WW1 > medal cards who was a Percy J ROBERTS may be your man, having found your > man > with parents in 1901 it looked like he had the middle initial as J, there > were only two Percy ROBERTS in the medal cards who served in the Ox & > Bucks, > one being a Percy J, the other Percy C (that is of course based on your > mums > anecdote being correct) > > Having found him in 1891 with parents I would say his middle initial is > actually T, I wonder if thats for TYE like his brother Benjamin ? > > There is one Percy ROBERTS born Banbury in the 1911 census but without > buying the transcript or page its hard to know what his marital status > was, > do you have that? > > There are many Percy ROBERTS listed in the medal cards which give little > detail so hard to work out which might be yours > > I do not see an obvious Percy ROBERTS in the service records so far > available on Ancestry > > Ancestry are making available the surviving service records but are only > up > to the letter N so far , so its possible his still exist and may yet be > found, he does not seem to appear in the so called pension records > > Service records give more detail and may identify him, although sadly only > approximately one third survived WW2 (ironically) > > The added problem is that he may not have used his middle initial so > identifying a marriage may also be a problem > > On that point have you seen his baptism or just a transcript, the original > of which may give his middle name ? > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > >> Nivard , >> I've no idea how Bucks came into it - I just wrote down what Mum said ! >> I have no second name for him at baptism , though he might have gained >> one >> later , I guess . >> Regards , >> Rosalind . > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > List archives are at > http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/eng-banbury-area > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ENG-BANBURY-AREA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
