    1. Re: [BAN] Roll call-Samuel FIELD

    3. I am also another list lurker. I am looking for the origin of Samuel FIELD of Thame. He married Mary CHURCHILL (o.t.p.), of Deddington, in Deddington on Jan 20, 1774, by licence. Wittnesses: B....CHURCHILL, junr; Ann HENCHMAN; Eliz. BUTCHER. Samuel FIELD died in Thame in 1794 (May-June) and in his will was described as a Tanner of Thame. I have not found any mention of his age at any time. He left his three minor children £500, £600, and £500, and his wife Mary the balance (unknown amt.) His descendants lived around Deddington, Banbury, and Thame for a few generations. Mary is mentioned briefly in a book "The Churchill Chronicles" as "who married Samuel Field, a tanner of Thame and Witney" His wife Mary died at Thame in 1832 and in her will she mentions " with the consent in writing of Elizabeth Field the neice of my late husband Samuel Field who now resides with me and of my daughter the said Philippa Hedges and of the survivor of them". Then in the will of Elizabeth Field, spinster of Thame, in 1843, Elizabeth mentions the following ----- "I give to my neice Frances Collyer wife of John Collyer of Birmingham " " I give to each of my Great Nephews John Brooks and Thomas Brooks the sons of my late niece Mary Maria Brooks deceased" " To my Nephew William Field son of my late Brother Thomas Field deceased" " to each of my nieces Maria Field and Sarah Ann Field daughters of my said late brother Thomas Field" " to my nephew William Bott Field son of my Brother William Field" " I give all my plate to my niece Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Brooks of Birmingham grocer" " unto and equally between my three nieces Ann the wife of the Reverend John Hillyard the said Elizabeth the wife of the said Thomas Brooks and Caroline Woodhill the wife of Josiah Cox Woodhill of Birmingham, Factor" I wonder if he would have had to serve an apprentiship as a "Tanner" and might there be records and where? A family story was that he was originally from Warwickshire. However, without any age, at any time, it is difficult to pick which Samuel Field in Warwickshire is the correct one. Any help or sugestions finding more information and birth/ancestors of Samuel FIELD is greatly appreciated. Spencer Field Calgary, Canada.
